Does showing up at 5pm opening really mean no wait?
At Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch, going right after the 5pm opening meant we got in with zero wait. We'd been debating where to go for dinner on the first night of our Daegu trip, and since this place is so famous, timing it for opening turned out to be a genuinely smart move. Parking was also easy at that hour.
🚘Parking is at nearby paid lots🚘
I visited quite a few cafés and restaurants around Daegu, and oddly most of them didn't have their own parking. Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch is the same — no dedicated lot, so we had to use a paid lot nearby. If you're driving, I'd recommend checking a parking spot ahead of time; personally, I think public transit would be much more convenient here.
A restaurant that spans three whole floors
The thing that surprised me most walking in was the scale. You can't tell from the outside, but the building is used up to the third floor, making it much bigger than expected. The seating was spacious too, with no cramped feeling at all.

Two servings each of uiseong garlic fresh pork ribs and bakpo marinated pork galbi, with a cypress steam box on the house
We ordered two servings of uiseong garlic fresh pork ribs and two servings of bakpo marinated pork galbi. Once we ordered, something unexpected showed up — a complimentary cypress steam box. It was a nice light bite while waiting for the meat, and its warm aroma gently perked up my appetite.

Staff grill the meat for you, start to finish
What I loved most was that a staff member grilled the meat for us from start to finish. On a trip you're often already tired from sightseeing, so not having to worry about grilling too made the meal genuinely relaxing. They timed everything to the perfect moment for flavor, which made it even more satisfying.

The uiseong garlic fresh pork ribs we tried first had a garlic aroma that wasn't overpowering, just subtly woven in to enhance the flavor. It was juicy, with a savory taste that grew with each chew. The bakpo marinated pork galbi that followed had a well-balanced sweet-savory flavor that pretty much anyone would like.

A frozen radish salad side dish that stuck with me
Both dishes were well-seasoned on their own, so you didn't even need a dipping sauce — actually, eating them plain let the meat's own flavor really shine through.
Every side dish was satisfying too. The scallion salad had a crunchy texture and just the right seasoning, pairing really well with the meat, and the banchan (side dishes) came out neatly arranged, so I kept reaching for more. The one that stuck with me most was the radish salad served frozen. It started off slightly icy, but as it thawed naturally over time, it developed a wonderfully chewy texture. Cool and crisp, it paired perfectly with the fatty meat, and I kept eating it alongside every bite.

A reservation-only room on the top floor for family gatherings or work dinners
By the time we were wrapping up our meal, the atmosphere had completely shifted. It had been fairly quiet at opening, but a little while later, customers kept streaming in. Watching the place fill up quickly made it clear this is a favorite among locals too. I was really glad we'd come early.
Another thing that impressed me was that there's a room set up on the very top floor. With a reservation, you can use it separately, which would work well for family gatherings, a meal with parents, or a work dinner. The space is spacious with plenty of seating variety, so it looked comfortable even for a larger group.
If you're looking for delicious pork galbi during a Daegu trip, Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch should be a satisfying choice. From the easy, staff-grilled service to the tasty fresh and marinated galbi and the carefully prepared side dishes!
