I was looking for a place near Hwagok Station where I could enjoy fresh sashimi along with hearty seafood dishes, so I stopped by Eochongye 1beonji (어촌계1번지).

I heard it's run by a Japanese-cuisine chef with 30 years of experience, so my expectations were high. Once I got there, the menu covered everything from sashimi to mulhoe to meal dishes, so it was easy to pick what suited me. It's also close to Hwagok Station so it was easy to find, and it was popular enough that customers kept coming in during the evening.
How close is Eochongye 1beonji to Hwagok Station?
Eochongye 1beonji is about a 3-minute walk from Exit 7 of Hwagok Station, so it's quite easy to reach.

The fish tank in front of the restaurant was kept tidy too. I tend to care about the condition of the tank at a sashimi restaurant, so it was impressive to see it so clean.
I'd recommend checking with the restaurant about parking and opening hours before you go.
Eochongye 1beonji menu and what we ordered
True to a sashimi specialist, Eochongye 1beonji had quite a varied menu: plenty of sashimi, of course, plus seafood, grilled dishes, steamed dishes, stews and mulhoe.

This time I ordered the mixed mulhoe and a sashimi rice bowl (hoedeopbap). The mixed mulhoe comes with somyeon noodles too, so after eating a good portion of the mulhoe, you can add the noodles and eat them together.
After enjoying plenty of sashimi and vegetables, slurping the noodles in the cold mulhoe broth made it a really filling meal on its own. I also ordered the sashimi rice bowl, so I got to enjoy sashimi in a couple of different ways.
How does the mixed mulhoe at Eochongye 1beonji taste?
The mixed mulhoe at Eochongye 1beonji had a tangy, ice-cold broth that really woke up my appetite. It suited the hot weather perfectly, and with plenty of sashimi and vegetables inside, every dip of my chopsticks came up generous.

Above all, the texture of the sashimi was great. It was clean and chewy, which made me feel the freshness was good.

Stirring somyeon noodles into the mixed mulhoe
Adding the noodles partway through the mulhoe felt like eating a whole different dish.

The tangy, cold broth and the chewy noodles go so well together that I enjoyed it right to the last bite.
Is the sashimi rice bowl at Eochongye 1beonji filling?
The sashimi rice bowl I ordered alongside was satisfying too. Fresh sashimi and vegetables were piled generously over the rice, which made it a great one-bowl meal.

I added chojang (sweet-and-sour chili sauce) and mixed it well, and I could taste the crunch of the vegetables together with the chewy sashimi.

The mulhoe is the cold, tangy dish, while the rice bowl is the one that really fills you up, so I was glad I ordered both.

Side dishes and atmosphere at Eochongye 1beonji
It's not just the main dishes: the complimentary dishes were varied too, so the table was set quite generously.

I liked that a sashimi meal here doesn't end with just the sashimi; you get a range of side dishes to enjoy alongside it.

The atmosphere is comfortable, so it looked good for a family meal out, and also for going with friends or a partner for sashimi and a drink.

⭐ Verdict: a filling mulhoe and sashimi rice bowl meal at Hwagok Station
On this visit to Eochongye 1beonji I tried the mixed mulhoe and the sashimi rice bowl. You get plenty of fresh sashimi, and the mixed mulhoe even comes with somyeon noodles, so it kept me full right to the end.

Another plus is the range of choices: besides sashimi, there's mulhoe, seafood, grilled dishes, stews and more.
