Guwol-dong brunch spot after a lie-in, kids' carbonara set: Withwich

In short

Withwich (위드위치) is a brunch and Western restaurant on Seonsuchongongwon-ro in Guwol-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon. After sleeping in one weekend, the writer brought the kids to Withwich and ordered the Double Italy set for two (41,800 won) and a sandwich combo set (13,900 won), and the kids finished the thick, creamy carbonara right down to the sauce. With kiosk ordering, a self-serve bar and a spacious dining room, Withwich is an easy, relaxed choice for a weekend brunch with children.

Why we went to Withwich in Guwol-dong on a weekend morning

After a long, lazy sleep-in on the weekend, I wanted a relaxed brunch. The kids were asking for pasta and pizza too, so we headed to Withwich, one of our regular brunch spots in Guwol-dong.

Withwich is known as a Blue Ribbon Survey pick, and the taste is consistent every time we go, so we had a comfortable meal together as a family.

What is the atmosphere like at Withwich?

Step inside Withwich and the first thing you notice is the blue sky and clouds painted on the ceiling. It feels fresh, like a little Mediterranean resort, and I felt relaxed the whole meal.

The restaurant is quite spacious, so even with a family you don't need to worry about the tables around you and can just chat and enjoy your food.

One side even has a professional roasting room, which explains why the coffee at Withwich is good.

How ordering works at Withwich: kiosk and self-serve bar

Kiosk ordering area at the Withwich entrance

You order yourself at the kiosk by the entrance. It may feel a bit awkward on a first visit, but you can take the menu to your table, pick calmly, and then order at the kiosk without any rush.

Pickles, water and cutlery are all at the self-serve bar, and I actually found that easier. No waiting around for service; you just grab what you need when you need it, which I counted as a plus.

Which Withwich sets did we order, and for how much?

This time I wanted to try a bit of everything, so I mostly ordered sets: the Double Italy set for two (₩41,800) and the sandwich combo set (₩13,900).

Double Italy set for two (₩41,800)

The Double Italy set for two comes with carbonara pasta, a bulgogi bacon ciabatta pizza, two lemonades and a house salad.

Dishes in the Double Italy set for two

The carbonara sauce is thick and rich. Unlike places that use store-bought sauce, you can really taste that it was cooked by hand, I'd say.

The kids said it was delicious after the first bite and even finished the sauce. The depth of flavor was impressive.

The bulgogi bacon ciabatta pizza balances the sweet-salty bulgogi (marinated beef) with the savory bacon.

The dough isn't thick and keeps ciabatta's plain, chewy character, so I could finish every last slice cleanly.

The house salad is nice between bites of the mains, and the vegetables are really fresh, with nothing wilted. It cleanses the palate and makes the next dish taste even better.

The lemonade is full of bright lemon aroma, a good match to cut the richness of the pasta.

Sandwich combo set (₩13,900)

The sandwich is Withwich's signature, so we couldn't just walk past it. With the sandwich combo set I chose the spicy perilla bulgogi sandwich.

Fragrant perilla leaves (kkaennip) on the bulgogi make the flavor feel more refined. A slight kick of spice backs it up, so even as a brunch item it isn't greasy at all and stays light to the end. A real treat.

Why we feel comfortable bringing the kids to Withwich

Photo related to Withwich's Blue Ribbon Survey selection

Being a Blue Ribbon Survey pick, Withwich seems to have clear standards in how it handles ingredients. I especially like that it sticks to the basics, like ham made with the sous vide method and beans roasted in-house every day.

It's a place that brings out the natural flavor of ingredients rather than relying on strong seasoning, so I felt I could feed the kids here with peace of mind.
