Why Haemul Teukbyeolsi for boneless monkfish stew at Bucheon Station?
Haemul Teukbyeolsi (해물특별시) Bucheon Station branch is a spot I go to really, really often near Bucheon Station, because of its boneless monkfish stew. Whenever I crave monkfish stew, this is where I end up. Other places are more than half bones and skin, but here it all comes as plump boneless meat, which is so convenient and delicious.

Inside Haemul Teukbyeolsi at 8 p.m.
I got there around 8 p.m. and it was still packed with customers. Monkfish stew works as both dinner and drinking food, so I guess lots of people come for it. This was my third visit, so yes, I really do love eating here.

How much is the small stone-plate monkfish stew set with boneless upgrade?
I ordered the stone-plate monkfish stew set (small) with the boneless upgrade (₩2,000), ₩45,000 in total. The menu here only shows prices after you click, so I've included the one from Naver!
This much is enough to stuff two people. I always want fried rice and always fail...! The portion is seriously big. You can also adjust the spice level, so keep that in mind!

Haemul Teukbyeolsi side dishes: steamed egg and corn cheese
The side dishes each pair perfectly with monkfish or seafood stew. The steamed egg and corn cheese are especially great for calming your mouth down between bites of the spicy stew. So nutty, so fluffy, seriously delicious!

You can tell just by looking how nutty it is, right?! The steamed egg was super fluffy, and the corn cheese... what is there even to say..! The richness of the cheese and the sweetness of the corn go so well together.

How spicy is the monkfish stew at level 2 (Shin Ramyun heat)?
I ordered the stone-plate monkfish stew (small) at level 2, about Shin Ramyun spiciness. It was a little spicy at first, but I got used to it quickly. The stew also came out faster than I expected.
Minari (water dropwort) is prettily laid on top, with loads of boneless monkfish chunks piled over it. Underneath is a heap of bean sprouts, cooked really well so they keep their crunch. Ahh, the look of it makes my mouth water. The bright red sauce makes you feel the heat right away.

New on the menu: fried flat dumplings
They also fry something like a dumpling wrapper here. It feels like the flat dumplings at Doojjim. Anyway, it wasn't there last time I visited, so I think it's new. And it's really good. Wrapping the monkfish in it is a great combo.

How does Haemul Teukbyeolsi's boneless monkfish stew taste?
The boneless monkfish here is in big, bouncy pieces, so plump. You don't have to pick out skin or bones, which made this Bucheon Station favorite even tastier.
Eating it together with the flat dumpling is also totally yum!! You get spiciness and nuttiness at once.
It's really good dipped in wasabi soy sauce too! I personally love wasabi, so I ate it like this a lot, and the savory depth really pops.

Plenty of cod milt and sea squirt in the stew
Besides the monkfish, the stone-plate stew has quite a bit of gonii (milt, fish sperm sac) and mideodeok (sea squirt), which made it fun to eat. I like milt a bit, and there was more than I expected, so I was happy!

Now let's try eating it different ways! With monkfish stew, bean sprouts on the side is the best :) The monkfish is big and plump, so it was delicious however I ate it, and I felt there's a reason this is a Bucheon Station favorite.

Finishing with steamed rice instead of fried rice
The small stone-plate stew is so big that fried rice felt like too much, so I just ordered a bowl of rice. Bright red monkfish on snow-white rice was a violently good sight, haha. My mouth is watering even as I write this.. hehe
Anyway! Haemul Teukbyeolsi Bucheon Station branch was a seriously good meal. I'll be back next time I crave boneless monkfish stew :)
