In short
Nokdo Susan (녹도수산) is a sashimi shop at the Daecheon Port fish market in Boryeong, Chungnam, running stalls 57 and 58 and cutting sashimi to take away. On the way to platform fishing, the writer bought 20,000 won of seasonal gizzard shad and a little over 1kg of flounder for 35,000 won, 55,000 won in total; the portions were generous and the packing was made for a one-hour trip. Nokdo Susan is a handy Daecheon Port stop for picking up sashimi right before the Wonsando undersea tunnel.

Why we stopped at Nokdo Susan in Daecheon Port on the way to a fishing platform
We were heading to Gubmaehang for fishing platform (jwadae) fishing, and decided to pick up sashimi to eat out there from Nokdo Susan (녹도수산) at Daecheon Port! Daecheon Port sits right before the Wonsando undersea tunnel, so we went looking for a good sashimi place there. The parking lot is really big and well kept, and the fish market is nicely developed too. Out of all the shops, we went to Nokdo Susan, a well-regarded sashimi place at Daecheon Port.

Nokdo Susan uses two stalls, 57 and 58. Maybe because of that, the shop is really big and had a wide variety of seafood. It had been a while since I'd been to a fish market like this, and it was so lively that just looking around was a lot of fun!

How fresh were the gizzard shad and flounder at Nokdo Susan?
What we had in mind at Nokdo Susan was flounder and gizzard shad (jeoneo)! The gizzard shad were really fresh. The owner said they had just come in that morning, and seeing them swimming around so energetically made the freshness really sink in.

We had a good look at everything else too. We checked out the gizzard shad we'd picked from the start, but the prawns looked so good that we agonized over prawns versus flounder. When we asked the owner, he said the flounder would be a good choice! So in the end it was gizzard shad and flounder. Since we had plenty of other things to eat, he picked out just the right size for us.
These gizzard shad were really the perfect size for sashimi. When gizzard shad are too big, the bones are tough in sashimi, but these were just the right size, so they were tender and the rich, nutty flavor really came through.

Sadly, we only looked at the prawns. They were seriously huge!! They say raw prawns are really sweet. We'll try the prawns next time!

How much is gizzard shad and flounder sashimi to go at Daecheon Port?
At Nokdo Susan we got ₩20,000 worth of gizzard shad, and the owner gave us flounder a little over 1kg for ₩35,000, so we paid ₩55,000 in total! They gave us much more than I expected, which I was thankful for. The staff were also very kind, which I liked.
The gizzard shad and flounder were really fresh! The gizzard shad kept flapping around because they were so fresh, and the flounder was thick and meaty. Now we packed up and headed to the fishing platform!

Packing made for a one-hour trip at Nokdo Susan
This is how neatly Nokdo Susan packs its sashimi. I told them it would take about an hour before it got into a fridge, and they packed it nicely to fit that.
And this is what it looks like inside! The gizzard shad and flounder were packed really neatly. I immediately felt why everyone recommends Nokdo Susan as a sashimi place at Daecheon Port. To pack it this carefully..!

Maybe because it's the season, the gizzard shad were glistening, and flounder is a fish that's good any time, so I was even more excited. And the amount was very, very big! At first I wondered if it might be a bit short, but honestly we'd have been full on just this, with nothing else.

Gizzard shad and flounder sashimi eaten on the fishing platform
Now we set up and started eating! Just from the photo, it looks mouthwatering.

Seasonal gizzard shad, nutty like sekkoshi (thin-sliced bone-in sashimi)
As I said earlier, the size of the Nokdo Susan gizzard shad was just right for eating!! You could faintly feel the bones, like sekkoshi, and the more you chewed, the more the rich, nutty flavor filled your mouth.

We wrapped it in perilla leaves with the separately made seasoned vegetables (hoe-muchim), and it was pure heaven! It was so good that my hand kept reaching for more.

Thick-cut flounder with a great chew
Nokdo Susan also cuts its flounder really thick. I liked that there was far more than I expected. The flounder's chewy texture was really satisfying! Wrapped in perilla leaves, it was so good too.
This was my first time going to a sashimi place at Daecheon Port, and getting it packed at Nokdo Susan turned out to be a good choice. Next time we go camping on Wonsando, I'll stop by and get a takeout again :)
