Bundang chicken restaurant, half-and-half nurungji tongdak: Jangjakkun

Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch is an oak-fired nurungji tongdak (whole chicken with scorched rice) restaurant inside the food alley near exit 1 of Yatap Station in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi. On an early dinner visit with a 9-year-old daughter, the writer ordered the half-and-half nurungji chicken and alternated between the lean, oak-roasted chicken and the crispy scorched rice pressed onto the hot stone plate, which made it feel like a full meal rather than a snack. Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch is an easy choice for a night when fried chicken feels too heavy and you are eating out with a child.
