One thing I’ve quietly been paying attention to lately when I brush is tongue care 🪥 I used to just give my tongue a quick brush with my toothbrush, but when I looked in the mirror, it was harder than I expected to get even the back of my tongue feeling clean.

Even when I tried using a separate tongue cleaner, products that were too hard or sharp made my tongue feel sore after a few scrapes, so I naturally stopped reaching for them. This time, while looking for something more comfortable to use, I tried the Peter Ferrer Dual 5th Generation Tongue Cleaner myself :)

I’ll leave a detailed review focused on what I noticed while using it!

Peter Ferrer Dual 5th Generation Tongue Cleaner: package and design

The packaging looked neat from the moment I received it. Since a tongue cleaner is an oral-care item I use every day, functionality matters to me, but I also quietly care whether it has a design I’ll want to reach for often. The Peter Ferrer one has pretty colors too, so it blended naturally with my other oral-care items even when I simply left it in the bathroom.

Tongue cleaner that pairs well with bathroom items

When you take it out, it looks a little different from the tongue cleaners I’d generally imagined. The part I was most curious about was the head!

What did the 3,000 fine bristles feel like?

Tongue cleaner head with 3,000 fine bristles

The Peter Ferrer Dual 5th Generation Tongue Cleaner is said to have 3,000 fine bristles. When I used other tongue cleaners, ones that felt like they were scraping my tongue strongly had sometimes been uncomfortable because of the irritation. But when I used this one, instead of feeling as though a hard part was relentlessly scraping my tongue, the fine bristles felt like they were passing gently over its surface.

Personally, I liked that I could care for my tongue without feeling much irritation. Of course, the feel can vary from person to person, so if you’re using it for the first time, I think it’s better to start gently rather than pressing too hard :)

How I used the dual scraper

I could see why “dual” is in the name once I saw it in person. After cleaning the tongue with the fine bristles, you can tidy up once more with the dual scraper. I use it by gently brushing first with the fine-bristle side, then finishing with the scraper.

How to use the fine bristles and scraper

It was convenient because one tongue cleaner offered two ways to care for my tongue, so I didn’t need several separate products. In particular, you can simply rinse off what remains on the scraper with water after use, which made the finish feel clean too.

Why it felt comfortable even for me, someone worried about gagging

Tongue cleaner designed with gagging concerns in mind

One thing that quietly concerns you when using a tongue cleaner is gagging, right? 😂 I’d also tried to clean farther back on my tongue, felt that “ugh” sensation, and given up quite a few times. The Peter Ferrer Dual 5th Generation Tongue Cleaner is said to focus on reducing gagging with its ergonomic design.

When I used it, I found it more comfortable than expected when I didn’t push it too far inside and instead gently pulled it outward. Still, gag reflexes vary, so I recommend using it only as far back as feels comfortable for you!

How I cared for tongue coating before and after use

Even after brushing, I tend to notice the coating left on my tongue. So this time, I checked how it looked beforehand and then used the tongue cleaner. I first swept gently over it several times with the fine-bristle side, then lightly tidied any remaining areas with the scraper.

The important thing here is not to scrape hard! Since I could use it without applying much force, I actually found it more comfortable to make several gentle passes. When I checked afterward, my tongue’s surface felt much more neatly refreshed than when I had only brushed, which I was pleased with. So lately, rather than brushing and calling it done, using a tongue cleaner as the final step has naturally become part of my routine :)

Three colors that look good in the bathroom

Oral-care items sit somewhere you see every day. Even if something works well, if the design is too clunky, I end up putting it away in a drawer for some reason 😂 The Peter Ferrer Dual 5th Generation Tongue Cleaner comes in three color options, which was nice because you can choose one that suits your taste. In the bathroom, it feels less like something that sticks out and more like a neat little accent!

If you’re like me and quietly pay attention even to the colors of your bathroom items, I think you’ll like this aspect too.

Who I think it would suit after trying it myself

I especially thought it was worth a look for anyone who couldn’t keep using a tongue cleaner because it felt irritating, anyone bothered by tongue coating after brushing, or anyone who wants both fine bristles and a scraper in one product. I, too, often used to buy a tongue cleaner, use it a few times, and then stop, but the Peter Ferrer one doesn’t feel burdensome to use, so lately I naturally reach for it after brushing.

Above all, the combination of 3,000 fine bristles + a dual scraper was what I liked most while using it!

It’s like brushing doesn’t feel properly finished until I’ve cleaned my tongue too, haha. If you’ve been looking for a non-irritating tongue cleaner or checking out tongue-coating eraser and tongue-cleaner products, I think the Peter Ferrer Dual 5th Generation Tongue Cleaner would be a good one to compare too ෆ I’m planning to keep using it as the final step of my brushing routine :)
