Daegu Jongno Korean BBQ: pork jowl set for ₩25,000 — Suyeong Naengsam

Suyeong Naengsam Daegu Direct Store is a quick-frozen thin-sliced pork belly restaurant on the Jongno restaurant street in Jung-gu, Daegu. An order of 300g frozen thin-sliced pork belly, 200g pork jowl and cheek, aged kimchi stew, cold janchi guksu (banquet noodles) and Suyeong fried rice came to ₩50,000 for two, or ₩25,000 per person. The pork belly was tender and the jowl and cheek had a satisfying chew, as expected from a place using meat from Bugwang Meat Shop in Busan — a solid pick if you like frozen thin-sliced pork.

Daegu Korean restaurant dinner: mild squid stir-fry, Banwoldang

Banwoldang Bujasikdang is a Korean rice-and-stir-fry restaurant one minute from Exit 20 of Banwoldang Station in Jung-gu, Daegu, known for its fire-grilled dishes. At dinnertime the last open table was still free, and the fire-grilled squid stir-fry (13,000 won) in mild spice came with two bowls of rice — enough squid to mix a whole bowl and still have plenty left. Between the smoky flavor and the cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), Banwoldang Bujasikdang is the kind of neighborhood spot worth returning to often.
