Appa Jjim Hanam Main Branch is a kodari-jjim (braised semi-dried pollock) restaurant in Hanam, Gyeonggi, an 8-minute walk from Hanam Pungsan Station on Line 5. A couple booked for Sunday noon and ordered siraegi kodari-jjim, poached cuttlefish, shrimp tempura and suhyangmi pot rice, and five side dishes came with the meal. The heat at Appa Jjim is well judged without any artificial sweetness, so even spice-shy eaters can finish a plate comfortably.

Euljiro burger spot: Swiss cheese burger with raw onion, Daily Fix

Daily Fix Euljiro is a Hanwoo beef patty burger restaurant one minute's walk from Euljiro 1-ga Station in Jung-gu, Seoul, run by chefs who trained at Michelin-starred New York restaurants. A couple shared a Classic Burger with added Swiss cheese, a Chicken Burger and 18 fries: the 150g Hanwoo patty tasted salty in a North American way, and the raw onion was so fresh it came across sweet rather than sharp. Even the husband, who rarely praises food, said "this is good" at Daily Fix Euljiro on the way out.
