Sushi Ianen Nowon Station is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant near Nowon Culture Street in Nowon, Seoul, where every plate costs a flat ₩1,990. On a visit with a friend, the picks from the Sushi Ianen belt were cheese, eel, aged kimchi (mukeunji), gunkan and yukhoe tataki (seared beef tartare) sushi, finished with a soft persimmon dessert. Verdict: the yukhoe tataki and aged kimchi sushi stood out, and the low price makes Sushi Ianen Nowon Station good for solo meals and friend get-togethers alike.

Gongridan-gil tsukemen shop in Seoul: how to dip, Torikokoro

Torikokoro Gongneung Direct Store is a tsukemen (dipping ramen) specialist on Gongridan-gil in Nowon, Seoul, between Gongneung Station and Taereung Ipgu Station. On her first visit to her older sister's regular spot, the writer ordered the signature Karai Miso Tsukemen, dipped the noodles into the broth a little at a time as the shop's guide instructs, and enjoyed the tender chicken breast topping. Thanks to its chewy house-made noodles, Torikokoro is a good pick on days you want Japanese ramen that is a little out of the ordinary.

Uijeongbu cutlet date lunch: yeolmu kimchi bibim noodles at Yangchonri

Yangchonri Donkaseu Millak Branch (양촌리돈가스 민락점) is an old-school, Korean-Western-style pork cutlet restaurant on the 2nd floor of a shopping building in Millak-dong, Uijeongbu. On a lunch date, the blogger and her boyfriend ordered a cheese pork cutlet, a pork cutlet with the spicy sauce served on the side, and bibim noodles (spicy mixed cold noodles). The standout was topping the bibim noodles with yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) from the self-serve bar. Verdict: taste, portions and price all hit the mark, and she wants to return for the flame-grilled dishes and a beer at dinner.

BBQ jokbal restaurant in Okjeong, Yangju: Bulburi Jokbal couple set

Bulburi Jokbal (불불이족발) Yangju Okjeong branch is a barbecue jokbal (pork trotters) restaurant in the central shopping district of Okjeong-dong, Yangju, Gyeonggi. The writer visited for dinner with her boyfriend and ordered the couple set (small jokbal, tray makguksu buckwheat noodles and a bowl of rice balls), half chili soy and half clean and mild. The jokbal is grilled on the outside, which gives it a gentle smoky flavor that sets it clearly apart from ordinary jokbal. With the noodles and rice balls rounding out the meal, Bulburi Jokbal is a jokbal spot in Okjeong worth recommending for dates, family dinners and group meals.
