Today I'm introducing a great bar snack spot in Samdeok-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu — Sangbong!

Where is Sangbong Dongseong-ro and what are the hours?

The hanok exterior and the room inside

An exterior with real hanok charm! Doesn't it kind of look like a bar you'd find in Gyeongju? ₍ᵔ˶◜ʚ̴̶̷ ̫ ʚ̴̶̷◝˶ᵔ₎

It was decorated with warm lighting and cute little props.

If there's a wait, just write your phone number and party size on the list and wait ➿

There were tons of tables inside. I loved that each seat had a basket for putting your bags 👍🏻

What's on the Sangbong Dongseong-ro menu?

Just looking at the main menu screams good bar food ・・・ from suyuk (boiled pork) to dakbal (spicy chicken feet), potato pancakes, and soups, plus set menus that seem great for sharing with a group.

You know how drinking makes you crave carbs ❕ The side menu covers that with udon, fried rice, and risotto, plus lighter options like fries and crackers.

What we ordered: burrata potato pancake and mala cream udon

The basic snack that comes out first is popcorn-like puffed corn, easy to pick at ➰

How does the mala cream udon taste?

Mala cream udon 💭 It comes out with a thick, creamy sauce drizzled with mala sauce. There's not just udon noodles but also plump shrimp and chewy glass noodles (bunmoja) mixed in.

Pop the yolk! Mix it all together and dig in.

At first the mala flavor hits hard, and as you chew through the chewy noodles and glass noodles the creamy nuttiness comes through ( ˶ˆ⤙ˆ˵ ) And every so often you bite into a plump shrimp — so good.

Burrata cheese potato pancake

Burrata cheese potato pancake 💭 A crispy fried potato pancake topped with soft, moist burrata cheese and fresh salad. Isn't the burrata just so cute?

Eating it all together in one bite creates the perfect combo — crispy, nutty potato with soft burrata cheese and the tangy salad and tomato.

Actually, before the main pancake came out, they mentioned it got a little burnt while cooking and they were making a new one, so they brought this out — the unburnt part — telling us to eat it while we waited ・・・ that's the kind of mistake I can appreciate, hehe.

It was so good we scraped both plates clean ( ⸝⸝•ᴗ•⸝⸝ )

From an earlier visit: suyuk and soft tofu stew

Sneaking these in — the suyuk and soft tofu stew (sundubu-jjigae) I had on a previous visit 〰️ Tender suyuk with fresh kimchi salad (geotjeori) is a knockout, and the sundubu-jjigae is rich and spicy — perfect with soju ‼️

Good to know before you visit Sangbong Dongseong-ro

I've visited here on and off for a while now, and every single dish I've had has been satisfying 🤤 Ordering drinks is mandatory, but there's a wide variety, including non-alcoholic highballs, so it's a fine spot even for people who don't drink.

Max party size while waiting is 5, but groups can book via Naver Reservation during opening hours ➿ Highly recommend it if you're looking for a great bar snack spot around Dongseong-ro or Samdeok-dong!!!!
