After-work galbi BBQ in Jongno, Daegu: 1st-floor open seats, Jangjak

Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch is a galbi (Korean grilled ribs) restaurant in Jongno, Jung-gu, Daegu, near Exit 1 of Jungangno Station. Staff grilled the ribs all the way through and trimmed the meat off the bones, and the sisters added more marinated galbi before finishing with naengmyeon (cold noodles). Jangjak Saenggalbi is a good pick for a date or group dinner in Jongno over soju-beer on a cool evening.

Hyeonpung, Daegu galbi restaurant with a grill plate swap: Galbijeong

Galbijeong (갈비정) is a pork galbi (marinated pork ribs) restaurant on the 2nd floor of Central Tower in Yuga-eup, Dalseong, Daegu, in the Hyeonpung area. On a return visit, the writer had 3 servings of pork galbi grilled by Galbijeong's staff, then finished with doenjang (soybean paste) stew and rice; the marinade was neither too sweet nor too salty, and the staff changed the grill plate before being asked. Verdict: Galbijeong in Hyeonpung is a solid pick for family dinners, company get-togethers and dates.

Hubaldae has a wait, but the pork belly and outstandingly friendly service make this Jongno BBQ spot worth it.

Cheongujeong Beef Sinwolseong Branch (청우정소고기 신월성점) is a beef rib BBQ restaurant on Joam-ro in Wolseong-dong, Dalseo-gu, Daegu. After work, the writer and her mother shared a half plate of fresh beef ribs and 3 servings of LA-cut garlic beef ribs, then ordered doenjang noodles (soybean-paste noodles) for dessert. Because staff keep torch-searing the meat and there is a dedicated parking lot, Cheongujeong Beef is a good-value pick for a beef dinner.
