Geumdeungeo Dalseo Branch (금등어 달서구 직영점) is a Korean set-meal restaurant on the 3rd floor of Jincheon Mat Town in Dalseo, Daegu, serving brick-oven mackerel with rice cooked in a stone pot. At Geumdeungeo the writer had the Geumdeungeo rice pot set and the neopttigi yukjeon (pan-fried beef) set, which come together for ₩21,000, plus ₩8,000 seasoned cockles; the koji-salt-aged mackerel, grilled in a 400-degree oven, was moist with no fishy taste, but the portions were so big the meal left everyone very full. Verdict: unless you really want the neopttigi or yukjeon, the Geumdeungeo rice pot set alone is plenty.

Toriaejeu Sangin Daegu Branch is a Japanese-style yakitori izakaya near Sangin Station in Dalseo, Daegu. The writer returned to Toriaejeu for a second round of the night, sat at the counter and shared enoki mushroom pork belly rolls, tsukune, negima and ginkgo skewers, mentaiko (pollock roe) rice and beef tendon soup over draft beer, highballs and soju.
