Aged sushi near Gwanghwamun Station: ₩28,000 B set at Elephant Sushi
In short
Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun is a sushi restaurant in the basement of KT Gwanghwamun Building WEST, connected to Gwanghwamun Station Exit 2 in Jongno, Seoul. The writer ordered the Elephant B set (12 pieces plus somyeon, ₩28,000) and was impressed by the somyeon (thin wheat noodles) in udon broth served instead of udon, and by the wide variety of sushi, each fish aged at low temperature by species. Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun is a good-value sushi stop straight from the station, whatever the weather.

- Parking available: first 120 minutes free at the underground lot of this building (KT Gwanghwamun branch)

Heading toward Gwanghwamun Station Exit 2, you'll see KT Gwanghwamun Building WEST — go in through this entrance, take one escalator up, and you'll find today's destination, Elephant Sushi.

It's such a big building that there's even a Starbucks nearby, so you can eat and then have tea time! A perfect meeting spot where you can enjoy everything without leaving the building haha.

Counter seats or tables at Elephant Sushi — which is better?
Elephant Sushi has both counter seats and regular table seats. If you want to watch the sushi being made, go for the counter! If you want to chat with your company while eating, go for a table! Pick your spot.

True to Gwanghwamun's office-heavy vibe, the place fills up with office workers at lunchtime! It's great for eating alone too, and with good access it's already busy — plus, since the US Embassy and Australian Embassy are nearby, a lot of foreign customers come by too, so it seems best to make a reservation before visiting 😁

Which set menu should you choose at Elephant Sushi?
Elephant Sushi's signature trio is the Elephant A, Elephant B, and Elephant C sushi sets. The price, piece count, and variety differ slightly, so you can order whichever set suits you — but the Elephant B set, with 12 pieces, seems like the most solidly satisfying choice.
Besides the sushi sets, they also sell à la carte items like sashimi, kaisendon, and tempura, so if you're going with a group, order a set plus some à la carte dishes and share 👍

Salad and clear soup are prepared as starters before the meal

What does the somyeon noodles served instead of udon taste like?
Here comes the somyeon noodles included in Elephant Sushi's set menu!! Usually when you order a sushi set, udon comes along with it, but uniquely, Elephant Sushi serves somyeon instead of udon 😲
It's based on a warm udon broth similar to udon, but uses much thinner somyeon noodles, giving it a distinctive charm. I never thought to put udon broth and seaweed with somyeon, but it's a surprisingly perfect match hahaha.

Potato croquettes 🥔 I received as a review service! I'd already be grateful for just a soda, but croquettes on top of that! Thank you so much 👏👏👏

What's the price and composition of the Elephant B set (12 pieces + somyeon)?
The Elephant B set comes with 12 pieces of sushi and somyeon, priced at ₩28,000.

The sushi varieties in the Elephant B set aren't skewed toward just one type of fish — there's a mix of white fish, salmon, tuna varieties, shrimp, abalone, futomaki, and more, so you get the joy of tasting one after another. So good 💙

Even just from the photos, the toppings on the sushi look thick and fresh, which is bound to win over sushi lovers.

They say food that looks good tastes good too — the colors are varied and the sushi is arranged so nicely, how could you not fall for it hahaha.

What's different about Elephant Sushi's low-temperature aging?
What sets Elephant Sushi apart is that instead of simply slicing fresh fish and serving it right away, they low-temperature age it in the traditional sushi style. They don't age all fish the same way — the amount of salt and aging time is adjusted by species, and the fish is served to customers only once the moisture level and condition are just right.

For sushi, the freshness of the fish itself matters, but the texture and flavor can also change a lot depending on the aging process — and this is an area where Elephant Sushi really sets itself apart.

Can kids or family members who don't eat sushi still enjoy Elephant Sushi?
Elephant Sushi has a kids' sushi menu for children or adults who aren't great with raw sushi. Since you can order this basic, easy-to-eat menu alongside the rest even if someone doesn't like raw food, it looks like a fine spot to visit as a family 🍣🍣🍣
A delicious, good-value sushi spot connected directly to Gwanghwamun Station
That's the end of this review of Elephant Sushi, a great pick when you want a clean sushi meal in Gwanghwamun 👍
