What did I need to make my first terrarium?

As I started spending more time at home, I wanted to keep a green plant around. Pots felt like too much work to maintain, and decor pieces felt artificial, so I chose the For a Moment Terrarium Kit to make one myself.

When I opened the delivered box, all the components were neatly organized.

It included everything from the glass vessel to soil, plants, and moss, so I did not need to prepare anything separately. I put the materials on the table and started right away.

How did I arrange the soil and volcanic rocks?

First, I laid down the two types of soil and placed the volcanic rocks wherever I wanted. Since the materials were ready to go, I could focus on deciding the arrangement.

The kit included volcanic rocks like the ones I often saw in Jeju, which made it nice for creating a tiny forest.

Was planting the fern and moss easy for a beginner?

The plants I chose this time were an evergreen four-lined fern and silk moss. Their names sounded difficult at first, but the actual planting process was easy.

The instructions were clear, so I followed them step by step. I placed the evergreen four-lined fern in the center of the soil I had laid down, then filled the surrounding area with silk moss.

It came together faster than I expected. As I touched the soil and placed each piece of moss by hand, I felt calmer too.

The neat leaf shape of the evergreen four-lined fern gave the whole arrangement balance. The silk moss filled the empty spaces and added more of a forest-like feeling.

With the two plants together, it felt like I had moved a little piece of nature indoors. Once it was finished, I looked at it for quite a while.

How did the finished terrarium feel at home?

The glass vessel has an understated design, so I thought it suited a living-room shelf or the top of a desk.

After placing the terrarium in the house, I was happy that the space felt a little calmer and more put together.

Was care difficult after it was finished?

From caring for it myself, I found that it did not need frequent watering and grew well indoors, so the maintenance felt manageable. The making process was easy too, which made it comfortable for someone like me who was not confident about growing plants.

Maybe because I made it myself, I grew attached to it and found myself looking at it once in the morning and once in the evening. Spending time looking at the green inside the glass felt like a brief pause. I also thought it would suit someone looking for a hobby to try at home or a housewarming gift.
