In short
Ilsang Heukyeomso Maewol-dong is a black goat soup restaurant near Jeonpyeong Lake (Jeonpyeongje) in Maewol-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju. It's so hot these days! My energy has been low lately, so I went to Ilsang Heukyeomso Maewol-dong (일상흑염소 매월동 본점) in Maewol-dong, Gwangju, for some stamina food. It's a good spot for goat soup near Jeonpyeong Lake, so I thought I'd share it.

Location, parking and hours of Ilsang Heukyeomso Maewol-dong
Ilsang Heukyeomso Maewol-dong is at 41 Jeonpyeong-gil, Unit 101, Seo-gu, Gwangju (Maewol-dong 750-4), and it's open from 10:00 to 20:00. There's free parking for up to 10 cars in front of the restaurant.
- Would be nice to visit after a walk around Jeonpyeong Lake (Jeonpyeongje)
- Spend a relaxed afternoon at Pungam Lake Park, then it's a 7-minute drive
- 10 minutes by car from the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center after an event or exhibition
- Group seating, reservations and takeout available; separate men's and women's restrooms
They say Ilsang uses only 100% domestic female black goat. Female black goat reportedly has less gamey smell and tender meat, so even beginners can enjoy it comfortably!
Atmosphere inside: is it OK to dine solo?
The inside of Ilsang Heukyeomso Maewol-dong is super clean and the tables are huge. There are seats just for solo diners too, so eating goat soup alone doesn't seem difficult at all! Snapping a photo at the entrance~!

The menu and why I chose the bone broth black goat soup
Besides black goat soup, Ilsang has seolleongtang (ox bone soup) and gomtang (beef soup), plus side items like handmade pork cutlet and tteok-mandu-guk (rice cake and dumpling soup)! Haha, lots of choices! To fill up my energy, Bbang-i (that's me) ordered the bone broth black goat soup, which has goat in a richly simmered bone broth.

They say Ilsang doesn't set prices by portion size! Every bowl is generously prepared in the large size. If you're worried about leftovers, just ask for the regular size! Haha!

Side dishes and table setting
The side dishes, like bamboo shoot namul (seasoned vegetables), king oyster mushroom kimchi, salad and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), are super neat and clean. It would be great to bring my parents here!

They even serve bottled water, so happy Bbang-i~!

How the bone broth black goat soup tastes: pot rice, noodles and scorched rice
When I ordered the bone broth black goat soup, it came with pot rice~! Haha! Bbang-i loves pot rice. I like my rice warm!! Hahaha!

A close-up of the bone broth black goat soup~ hahaha. It looks like there's no way it could taste bad. Hahaha!

I moved the rice into a bowl and poured water into the pot to make nurungji (scorched rice tea).

The soup has somyeon (thin wheat noodles) in it too, and eating them together with the goat meat was amazing~ hahaha!

Wrapping rice with onion and goat meat is just to die for! Haha!

It was so good that I wolfed it down. Hahaha! When your body feels weak, goat soup is the answer, isn't it? Hahaha!

When I was almost done, I put rice into the soup and happily dug in. Hahaha!

The pot rice turned into nurungji rice, and that was delicious too~~ hahaha!

Schisandra tea for dessert and overall verdict
Ilsang serves omija-cha (schisandra tea) for dessert, and they put the actual schisandra berries in it too, so wow, you really feel like, this is truly omija tea! Hahaha! After finishing happily, I took a Bbanggnature (Bbang-i's selfie). Hahaha!
BMI 29 Bbang-i really enjoyed the bone broth black goat soup at Ilsang Heukyeomso Maewol-dong! Shouldn't we take good care of our bodies in summer? Haha! Chobok, Jungbok and Malbok (the three hottest days of summer) are coming up soon, and eating goat soup for stamina should really top up your energy! Haha!
Goat soup can have a gamey smell, but Ilsang's bone broth black goat soup had none, which I loved. It was so tasty that I plan to come back~~! The staff were also kind and friendly, which was great.

Thoughtful touches at the Ilsang counter
At the counter of Ilsang Heukyeomso Maewol-dong, they have candy, mouthwash, toothpicks and hair ties, so you can use them if you need them~ hahaha! I really like these thoughtful details! Haha!
It would be good to visit with your parents, or for a gathering or company dinner! If you're looking for a goat soup restaurant near Jeonpyeong Lake in Maewol-dong, Gwangju, or a place for a date or to take your parents, I'd recommend Ilsang Heukyeomso Maewol-dong.
