Today was a get-together with friends, and while I was trying to figure out where to go, I picked a native black pork specialty restaurant that's been popular lately in Sinjeju. It's located near Jeju Airport, so I'd recommend it too for anyone looking for a Yeondong restaurant or Nohyeong restaurant. This is Pork80 Jeju Airport Branch, where you can try the rare Jeju Nanchuk Matdon.

Supply record notice for Nanchuk Matdon

Before ordering, I noticed the origin-of-ingredients board here has a stacked supply record, which built even more trust.

Nanchuk Matdon might be an unfamiliar black pork name, but among native Jeju black pork breeds, it's the one where you can really taste only the strengths — you notice the difference once you try it. At Pork80, tables that order Nanchuk Matdon get tableside grilling service.

Pork80's menu had plenty of options too, from Nanchuk Matdon to raw ribs and seasoned ribs. We decided to try the Nanchuk Matdon plate. There were also lots of side dishes and meal options, so we'd already picked out a dessert menu for after the meat too ^^ For an evening drink, with highballs, draft beer, and even traditional liquor in the lineup, it seems like it'd make for a fun drinking session too ☆

For the tastiest first bite

Meljeot jorim stone pot and side dishes on the table

The 600g Nanchuk Matdon plate we ordered arrived. The meat's color was vivid and the fat layer looked firm — it looked like good black pork just by sight.

For side dishes, they gave us radish salad, scallion salad, pickled onion, macaroni salad, geotjeori (fresh kimchi), pickled perilla leaves with wasabi, plus matcha salt and their special sauce.

On top of that, a meljeot jorim (anchovy sauce stew) came out bubbling in a stone pot, which paired really well with the black pork.

Another highlight here is that they grill it over bincotan charcoal ☆ The charcoal quality was great and the heat was strong, making for a perfect match with black pork, where the juiciness and flavor really matter ^^

For the most delicious first bite, the perfect taste of native Jeju black pork — the grilled Nanchuk Matdon plate.

A staff member laid out the black pork piece by piece and grilled it — placed on the charcoal, it looked even more delicious ^^

What surprised me at Pork80 was that they grill it together with scallions — I'd assumed it was just a side dish, but they kept touching the charcoal-scented scallions onto the black pork as they grilled ☆

The most delicious bite — the juices spread all through it, with the black pork's own flavor added and a really tasty chewiness.

A bite of black pork dipped in matcha salt

Dipping it in the matcha salt added a clean umami on top, and that's the real delicacy here.

Best of all, since the Nanchuk Matdon gets grilled for you, I could just relax and chat with my friends while eating. The fully cooked meat gets moved onto the metal plate so it doesn't burn, which was great 👍

Pairing it with the scallions grilled in the black pork fat had this refreshing, palate-cleansing feel that made it taste even better.

The meljorim (anchovy stew) pot and the side dishes at Pork80

Another great combo for enjoying the black pork at Pork80 is this meljorim stone pot. The meljeot jorim came out bubbling hot, and it wasn't salty at all — just the ocean's umami came through, which made it great for dipping the black pork in. The meljorim was also a good recommended combo to spoon over rice later ^^

Aside from that, the side dishes also paired really well with the black pork, and my friends ate happily saying it was delicious ☆ I especially loved the geotjeori for being spicy and tangy — I wanted more.

Vegetable-packed pork bibimbap and cold yeolmu noodles to finish

Pork bibimbap piled high with vegetables

Once the meat was this good, naturally I got excited for the dessert menu too. This is the pork bibimbap piled with vegetables, ordered for ₩5,000. Mixing it up with the vegetables and basic seasoning, then adding a spoonful of meljorim, really brought the flavor up a notch.

I also added meljorim tofu on top, and that turned out to be another delicacy ⭐️

My friend's cool yeolmu noodles — packed with tangy yeolmu (young radish greens) — looked so refreshing even before eating. The broth wasn't too salty either, just the right amount of tang.
