Jongno 3-ga hanok bakery: cheesy bread & free salt bread, Munhwa
In short
Munhwa Bakery (문화제빵) is a hanok-style bakery on Donhwamun-ro in Jongno, Seoul, a short walk from Jongno 3-ga Station. On a revisit with no wait, the writer bought Munhwa Bakery's signature garlic bread again, tried the cheese bread for the first time and got a free salt bread through the Naver receipt photo-review event. Munhwa Bakery's garlic bread was just as satisfying the second time, and the cheese bread and free salt bread are both worth buying again.

The first time I visited Munhwa Bakery while in Jongno 3-ga, it was so good that I ended up going back again! Once a place impresses me, I keep returning, and this time again it didn't let me down, one of Seoul's top three bakeries. This time I also tried items I missed last time, haha.
Munhwa Bakery location, hours and wait time
Munhwa Bakery (문화제빵) is at 65 Donhwamun-ro, 1st floor, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and it is open from 11 AM to 7 PM. It's an easy walk from Jongno 3-ga Station, so access is really good.
The exterior has a clean hanok (traditional Korean house) feel that naturally catches your eye as you pass. Last time the line was long and I waited a good while, but this time I was lucky and walked straight in with no wait. Timing really is everything, haha.

Inside Munhwa Bakery
The shop is still small, and the inside felt tidy and clean. Best of all, freshly baked bread kept coming out, and the toasty smell filling the shop made me so happy.
The display was neat too, so I once again agonized over what to pick. Just looking at it makes you hungry.🍞

Munhwa Bakery menu and the receipt-review salt bread event
Munhwa Bakery's signature items are the garlic bread and the coffee bread. Last time I bought garlic bread, milk cream bread and sliced white bread. This time I rebought the garlic bread I loved so much and also picked the cheese bread for the first time.
And an event I only learned about on this visit: they give one free salt bread for writing a Naver receipt photo review. I couldn't pass that up, haha. I joined right away.
One more thing to note! A sign said that because of rising ingredient costs, some items go up slightly in price from July 1. Still, seeing the prices in person, they were not a burden at all and felt more than fair given today's prices.

What I ordered this time
- Garlic bread
- Cheese bread
- Review-event salt bread

Is Munhwa Bakery's garlic bread still good the second time?
The signature garlic bread was just as satisfying on a repurchase. After a short wait, a staff member kindly cut it into easy-to-eat pieces and packed it up for me.

The smell of bread made waiting hard, so I pulled out a piece as soon as I got outside, haha. There's a reason this garlic bread is worth buying again.
It's moist and soft, not hard like ordinary garlic bread, so it won't scrape the roof of your mouth, and best of all it leaves no lingering garlic taste afterward, just a clean finish! The sweet, gentle garlic flavor is really appealing, and I thought, yes, this is Munhwa Bakery's signature. "I'm glad I bought it again" just came out on its own, haha.

How does the review-event salt bread taste?
I tasted the salt bread I got after writing the Naver receipt review right away too. When I tore it in half, the layers were really distinct.
Crisp outside, moist inside. With a salty butter flavor on top, it was far tastier than I expected, and I finished one in no time. It isn't a half-hearted bread made just for an event; the quality is good enough to sell, and I was satisfied.

Trying Munhwa Bakery's cheese bread for the first time
The cheese bread was the item I was most looking forward to this visit, and it was generously filled with cheese. Even from outside it looked like cheese was about to spill out, and when I split it open it was full all the way through.
The thick, rich, salty cheese went so well with the soft bread. If you like cheese, you'll be happy with this one! I think I'll buy it again next visit.

Overall verdict on my Munhwa Bakery revisit
Munhwa Bakery in Jongno 3-ga was satisfying even on a revisit. My first visit was so good that I came back, and this time was again a happy one.
The shop still smells of freshly baked bread, the staff are kind, and the garlic bread lives up to expectations. Trying the cheese bread and salt bread this time reminded me again why so many people call it one of Seoul's top three bakeries.
If you're looking for a good bakery in Jongno 3-ga, I can confidently recommend Munhwa Bakery. Next time I'm definitely going to try the coffee bread and onion bagel I haven't had yet!😊
