Cleansing balm for sensitive skin: HEEDA Jirisan Charcoal Balm
In short
HEEDA Jirisan Moist Charcoal Cleansing Balm is a cleansing balm I used for about a week on sensitive combination-oily, dehydrated skin in Korea. I massaged it onto a dry face, emulsified it with water, and found it comfortable without noticeable redness or dryness, though skin reactions vary.

Why did I use this cleansing balm for combination-oily, dehydrated skin?
My makeup tends to separate and settle into lines, so I was always concerned about whether the areas between my pores were being cleansed thoroughly. I also tend to get breakouts, perhaps from dust or my diet, so I tried this product while looking for ingredients and a texture that would not feel harsh.
One reason I chose it was that it is described as containing Jirisan charcoal, which may help absorb sebum and impurities. Invisible makeup residue and sebum had always felt difficult to wash away.
How did I use it?
I spread it evenly over a dry face and gently massaged it, focusing on areas where sebum and pores concerned me. Then I added a little water to emulsify it before rinsing with lukewarm water.
One scoop with the included spatula was enough to massage my whole face. Rather than twisting open, the container opens and closes from the top and bottom, so I worried less about product getting on it or leaking during use.
What were the texture and emulsification like?
It felt like a soft texture that scoops like sherbet. I had felt irritation from a grainy cleansing balm before, but this one melted with body heat and rolled smoothly over my skin.
When it met water, it turned slightly white as it emulsified. I was worried because my skin was sensitive at the time, but it suited me well without redness or dryness.
Did it remove waterproof makeup?
I tried removing base makeup and waterproof products. It removed even my eyeliner and mascara without much trace, and I used it by massaging my butterfly zone for longer.
How did my skin feel after about one week?
Recently, I used it as my first cleanse. After about a week, the sebum that had felt rough to the touch seemed much more cleared away, and it felt comfortable even on my skin, which tends to feel tight right after cleansing.
If you are concerned about sebum and pores and are looking for a cleansing balm with a soft texture, my experience may be useful to consider. Skin reactions vary, though, so it is best to use it according to your own skin condition.
