Dongtan tonkatsu with a homemade pickle self-serve bar: Kkot Gatsu
In short
Kkot Gatsu is a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant in a residential area of Mokdong, Dongtan, in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. On a weekend visit with a baby, the blogger ordered while joining the Kkot Gatsu waitlist: the cheese katsu, limited to 20 a day, and the flower katsu, 8 round pieces of tenderloin dipped in wasabi and lemon salt, with homemade pickles and dried radish from the self-serve bar. Verdict: at weekend peak times, join the waitlist first and park at the public car park a 2-minute walk away to enjoy Kkot Gatsu comfortably.

Is there a weekend wait at Kkot Gatsu in Mokdong, Dongtan?
Yes, Kkot Gatsu (꽃가츠) in Mokdong, Dongtan has a wait at weekend peak meal times. I went on a weekend, and as you'd expect from a famous Dongtan restaurant, there was a line. If you go at peak time, expect a wait!
- Address: 33 Wangbaesan 3-gil, Dongtan-gu, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea
- Hours: 11:00–21:00 (break time 15:00–17:00)
- Parking in front of the building
- Parking at a nearby public car park
Maybe because parking is fairly easy here, lots of families had driven over for a meal out~

Kkot Gatsu is already known as a Dongtan Mokdong favorite for its neat, tidy exterior and its crispy-yet-juicy tonkatsu. I went with my baby, and with baby chairs available, it felt like just the right place for a family meal.

Where to park for Kkot Gatsu
The building has only one dedicated parking space, so I'd recommend the public car park a 2-minute walk away. It was the weekend and I could park next to the building, but with just one space, I'd say use the public car park if you can! It's a 2-minute walk, by the way.

Order your food while joining the Kkot Gatsu waitlist
At Kkot Gatsu you order your food right as you join the waitlist. The place was full the moment we arrived, so we joined the waitlist, and people kept lining up after us, so at peak time I'd say get on the waitlist first. Because we pre-ordered while waiting, I think the food came out pretty quickly, haha
Kkot Gatsu menu and what we ordered

We ordered the cheese katsu, which is limited to 20 a day, and the flower katsu (꽃가츠). The flower katsu seemed to be the best-seller: it's a round tenderloin cutlet, and you get 8 pieces!

What is inside Kkot Gatsu, and what's on the self-serve bar?
Inside, Kkot Gatsu is spacious with a fair number of seats. The staff were busy but friendly, which put me in a good mood~

There's a self-serve bar near the entrance, where you get extra tableware and side dishes. Thanks to that, the tables stayed fairly tidy. They had homemade pickles and dried radish (musaengchae-style side) and they were seriously good!!

A baby-friendly tonkatsu restaurant in Dongtan
Kkot Gatsu has baby chairs, so it's a good restaurant to go to with a baby. The self-serve bar has tongs and scissors, and it seemed like lots of young kids come here too.

It looked like they get a lot of delivery orders from the area too. Delivery drivers kept coming in for pickups!! There's also a restroom inside, which seemed handy.

How is the cheese katsu, limited to 20 a day?
Kkot Gatsu's cheese katsu is a cutlet stuffed with plenty of mozzarella. Fresh out of the kitchen! The meat itself is tender, so it went really well with the cheese.
The menu says every cutlet tastes best dipped in wasabi and lemon salt. The tonkatsu sauce was good too, and the portion was generous, so it was really delicious.

Kkot Gatsu suggests how to enjoy the tonkatsu and plates it prettily, and I think that detail is what draws the crowds, haha. The wasabi wasn't very spicy either, which was perfect for me!!

The cheese katsu with its thick layer of cheese. Kkot Gatsu also, unusually, has half-and-half tonkatsu options, so I think it'd be a good place to eat alone in Mokdong, Dongtan too.
How is Kkot Gatsu's signature tenderloin flower katsu?
Kkot Gatsu's signature is the round tenderloin cutlet. The meat is really tender, and these days I'm into tenderloin, haha. The coating stayed crispy until the last bite and the juices stayed in, so it was sooo good.

What comes with the tonkatsu at Kkot Gatsu?
Every tonkatsu dish at Kkot Gatsu comes with cabbage salad, homemade pickles, salt and wasabi, rice and soup, and you can order udon and set menus separately.

Personally, eating it the way Kkot Gatsu recommends was the best. The wasabi-and-salt combo makes the tonkatsu even tastier!
Is Kkot Gatsu in Mokdong, Dongtan worth a return visit?
Kkot Gatsu sits on a residential street in Mokdong, Dongtan, so I wondered if it would get many customers, but it's already famous locally, so it's busy, and it's become a place I want to go to often. It's great with a baby in Dongtan too, so if you like tonkatsu, I really recommend it~!

Kkot Gatsu even has candy as a little after-meal treat, and the kids all grab one, lol. They looked tasty but I'm on a diet so I held back, haha. There are pretty cafés nearby too, so this Mokdong, Dongtan spot seemed like a good date course as well!
