Eosa Chulto Hongdae Branch (어사출또 홍대점) is a Korean seafood restaurant that's perfect when you want a generous amount of sashimi and seafood in Hongdae!!! It has the feel of a live fish wholesale market, with tanks of live fish out front, and you can enjoy sashimi, live squid, seafood and spicy fish stew.
It's great for a plate of sashimi with a glass of soju, and also for a group ordering lots of different seafood. Let me introduce this Hongdae sashimi pub!

What's the atmosphere like inside?
There are lots of tables, so I think it'd be good for group gatherings and company dinners too! Lots of foreign visitors came in as well, didn't they?!! Like half Koreans, half foreigners, haha. It must be a famous spot among foreigners too!
The place was super clean and had no fishy smell at all! They seem to keep it well maintained! There's a restroom inside too, so it's very tidy!!

What's on the menu?
The menu has fresh live-fish sashimi like flounder and rockfish, plus seafood such as sea squirt (meongge), live octopus (sannakji) and abalone! There's also mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), nakgopsae (spicy octopus, beef and shrimp stew) and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup). The menu is so varied I couldn't decide what to eat, haha.

They also have lunch special menus at low prices, so it seems like a good place to come at lunchtime too!

What comes with the ₩59,000 Chulto Set?
We ordered the Chulto Set (₩59,000), which is a small mixed sashimi platter + 2 seafood items + spicy fish stew!
Basic side dishes and vegetable jeon

The basic skikkadashi (starter sides) are chili peppers, pickled ginger, silkworm pupae, white kimchi, garlic, pickled scallions, corn salad and ssamjang, all good with sashimi! They're nice to nibble on before the sashimi arrives, and silkworm pupae with soju is a winner, haha.

They also bring out jeon (savory pancake) as standard! A thinly pan-fried vegetable pancake style!

2 seafood items: abalone and sea squirt
You can't choose the 2 seafood items in the Chulto Set; the owner picks them for you! That day we got abalone and sea squirt. The abalone was super chewy with a clean taste, and the sea squirt had a strong scent of the sea. For seafood lovers, it's a great combination to have alongside the sashimi!

Small mixed sashimi: salmon, flounder, rockfish, mullet, fluke
The Chulto Set sashimi comes with 4 pieces each of salmon, flounder, rockfish, mullet and fluke! Flounder fin sits in the middle!
Haha, the texture is so chewy! The white fish is clean and light, and the fattier cuts taste rich and nutty. It's great dipped in chojang (sweet-and-sour chili sauce), and also incredibly delicious with soy sauce or ssamjang!

You can't eat sashimi without soju, right 😂 Cheers, haha!!

Spicy fish stew to finish
At Eosa Chulto Hongdae Branch, they bring out the spicy fish stew (maeuntang) once you've eaten a fair amount of the sashimi! The broth is spicy and refreshing, so it goes well with a glass of soju! After eating seafood, a spoonful of the stew feels like it cleans up your mouth!

What is the receipt review event?
Eosa Chulto Hongdae Branch gives you a free bottle of soju or beer if you write one Naver receipt review!

If you write two Naver receipt reviews, you get a no-blank prize draw where 1st prize is a whopping ₩100,000! But I have terrible luck, so I got 4th prize, haha. I got 1 bottle of soju!

Who would I recommend Eosa Chulto Hongdae Branch to?
Eosa Chulto Hongdae Branch is a good place for sashimi and seafood in Hongdae. I like that you get side dishes, seafood, mixed sashimi and stew all in one go. It's good for drinks with friends, and also works well for company dinners or a second round in Hongdae.
The staff were also super friendly, so I left happy and well fed! I recommend Eosa Chulto Hongdae Branch to anyone looking for a Hongdae sashimi restaurant, a great sashimi spot or good-value seafood 🤍
