Isu Station pho spot: 3-meat combo and tangy bun cha, Bangbaedong

In short

Bangbaedong Ssalguksu Isu Branch (방배동쌀국수 이수점) is a Vietnamese pho and bun cha restaurant a 2-minute walk from Isu Station Exit 10 in Dongjak, Seoul. Two people shared a combo pho topped with brisket, beef belly and raw beef tenderloin (₩12,000) and a bun cha with smoky grilled meat (₩14,000). Verdict: comparing three meats in one bowl of pho alongside bun cha with a sweet-and-sour sauce made a satisfying meal.

With brisket, beef belly and raw tenderloin all on the noodles, one bowl lets you taste a variety of meats. Rather than a pho with just one kind of meat, you can compare how each cut tastes, and I was glad I picked the combo.

There was a generous pile of green onions and bean sprouts too, and eating the meat and noodles with the broth makes for a filling meal.

Table sauces to add to the pho

You can add the sauces on the table to adjust the flavor to your taste. If you like spicy food, the chili sauce would be a good addition.

How is the bun cha at Bangbaedong Ssalguksu Isu Branch?

The bun cha (₩14,000) at Bangbaedong Ssalguksu Isu Branch came on one plate with thin noodles, vegetables and grilled meat.

The meat came in bite-size pieces, and cabbage and herbs came along too, which went well with the noodles. The meat had a strong smoky grilled flavor with extra savory depth, and it was really delicious!! If you like bun cha, definitely try the bun cha here too.

You dip the noodles, meat and vegetables in the separate sauce however you like. The sweet-and-sour sauce suited my taste really well, haha

Bun cha has a different charm from pho, so I was glad we ordered both. Eating pho and bun cha together let us enjoy a nice variety of dishes.
