I figured that to stick with a diet for the long haul, you have to actually enjoy what you eat. So I went looking for a salad place near Gongdeok Station in Mapo that would fill me up, and ended up at Why Starve Diet Gongdeok. The hardest part of starting a diet is keeping it going for a long time, right?

I used to think cutting portions and starving was the fast way, but you burn out quickly, and what you lose is probably muscle, right?

I've come to feel that a diet you can keep up for a long time matters most, so these days I'm looking for ways to eat as deliciously as possible while managing my weight!!

Why Starve Diet Gongdeok Main Branch is connected to Gongdeok Station, so it's a Mapo salad spot you can reach without getting hit by a single drop of rain or snow, even in nasty weather.

At Why Starve Diet, besides the protein box salads, you can add grain rice or pasta noodles to make the meal a bit more filling.

Is the atmosphere okay for eating alone?

The shop at Why Starve Diet Gongdeok Main Branch isn't big, but it was cute and clean. It's convenient since it connects to the subway exit, and it looked good for takeout and for a simple solo meal. Even though I visited on a weekend, there were a few people eating salad on their own.

What I ordered and the prices: Beef Light ₩12,900, Smoked Duck Light ₩9,900

I ordered two things: the Beef Light protein box for ₩12,900 and the Smoked Duck Light protein box for ₩9,900.

For the Beef Light protein box dressing I hesitated and went with the shop's recommendation, and for the protein box with duck I asked for my favorite oriental sauce. If you have a go-to dressing you can choose that, and when you're wondering what would go well with it?? it's nice that there's a shop-recommended option.

Gongdeok has lots of offices, so it seemed like plenty of office workers come at lunchtime, and the location is also good for a protein fix after the gym. First off, I was happy with the packaging! I ordered takeout and it was very neat.

The menu has more variety than I expected, so I hesitated a bit at first, but each item comes with a photo plus nutrition and calorie info, so even people serious about meal management shouldn't have trouble choosing.

Beef Light protein box: is it okay eaten cold?

The Beef Light protein box holds several kinds of vegetables together with beef steak. Raw and grilled vegetables were mixed in, and with onion flakes on top the texture was great too.

It's a Light box so there wasn't a lot of meat, but what matters first is taste. Even on a diet, if it tastes bad you get sick of it fast, and then the diet is a total failure, sob.

So these days eating a diet meal that tastes good is important, right?! Why Starve Diet Gongdeok Main Branch was delicious. The smoked duck was mild yet had a faint smoky flavor, so I never got tired of it,

and I ate the beef a while after bringing it home. Since it comes with vegetables, reheating seemed awkward, so I ate it straight from the fridge. But even cold, the meat wasn't dry at all and was super tender, so I was satisfied! Oh right, and I recommend dipping the dressing rather than pouring it on!

How did I eat the Smoked Duck Light protein box?

The Smoked Duck Light protein box had green beans, chickpeas and broccoli, which I always include in my diet meals, plus paprika, soft lettuce and other vegetables. I asked for no olives in the smoked duck protein box, and they took care of the request.

I set up the smoked duck protein box over grain rice and sprinkled on the oriental sauce, and boom, an insanely tasty poke bowl. Next time I want to try it as a salad pasta or poke style too.
