Family dinner pork BBQ in Yeongjong: sunlit window seat at Hanmaeum

A Yeongjong family meal recommendation! Today I'm writing up a visit to Hanmaeum Jeonguk Sikdang Yeongjong Sky City Branch (한마음정육식당 영종하늘도시점), a great BBQ place for eating out with the family on Yeongjong Island. There are so many BBQ restaurants in Yeongjong Sky City, but this time I picked one with good meat and a pretty view. To cut to the chase: the food, the service and the facilities all satisfied me, and I'd happily go back.

How do you get a window seat at Hanmaeum Yeongjong Sky City?

I booked ahead for dinner and was shown to a window seat where the sun comes in beautifully. I figured the place would be busy in the evening, so I reserved, and thanks to that I think I got the window seat. The atmosphere was really nice.

Eating in a bright space with no stuffy feeling made it even better, and the natural light made my food photos look so much tastier. It was a lovely seat for a relaxed chat over dinner.

What is the half-pig set and how did it taste?

Hanmaeum's half-pig set (돼지반마리) lets you enjoy several cuts at once, so it's perfect if you want to try a bit of everything.

The meat was fresh and thick, with a great chew. The moment it hit the grill, a nutty aroma spread, and the first bite was juicy with no gamey smell at all.

It's delicious just dipped in salt, and it also went really well wrapped in lettuce and other leafy greens. With a group, the half-pig set alone gives you plenty of variety, so I think satisfaction is high.

What's a good side to eat with the meat? Jjolmyeon

The jjolmyeon (chewy spicy cold noodles) I had with the meat was really good too.

The sweet-and-sour sauce isn't overpowering, so it cleanly cuts the richness of the meat, and the crunchy vegetables and chewy noodles blend together well.

A few bites of meat, then a bite of jjolmyeon: that combo was absolutely the best.

Hanmaeum Jeonguk Sikdang Yeongjong Sky City Branch has high chairs and a separate playroom, plus a CCTV monitor so you can see inside the playroom from your table. What impressed me most was how well equipped the place is for families.

First, there are high chairs, which I'd recommend for families with little ones. Above all, there's a separate playroom where kids can play. The kids have fun while the parents eat more leisurely, and I could see why so many families come.

What I especially liked was the CCTV monitor that lets you check inside the playroom from where you're eating. You can keep an eye on whether the kids are playing well and eat with peace of mind. Parents will surely understand what a big plus this kind of thoughtfulness is.

How was the service at Hanmaeum?

The food was satisfying, but the service was good too. The owner and staff were all friendly, so I enjoyed the meal from start to finish.

You could feel their consideration for customers in how they checked on us before we had to ask for anything. The owner's tone of voice in particular is the kind that sends guests home with extra energy. Add friendly service to tasty food and you naturally want to come back. You could tell they care about the restaurant.

Mouthwash and a coffee machine on the way out

On the way out after paying, there was mouthwash (Garglin) set out. After eating meat you sometimes worry about your breath, so having mouthwash there let me wrap up the meal neatly. It's a really small thing, but the thoughtfulness toward customers left an impression.

There was even a coffee machine in front of the exit door.
