I was in Sokcho and wanted something a bit different from sashimi or grilled meat for lunch, so I went looking for Sokcho Geu Badaro.

Their signature dish is the seafood soy sauce platter, where you get to try several kinds of seafood at once — I was curious, and once it was actually set on the table it turned out to be even more varied and generous-looking than I expected.

Several kinds of seafood soy sauce, all at once

After a short wait, the dish arrived — with so many kinds on one plate, it looked pretty generous just from the sight of it.

What I liked most was not being stuck with just one kind — you get to taste shrimp, scallop, abalone, octopus, salmon, crab, and conch all at once.

When traveling and wanting to try a bit of everything, ordering each dish separately can feel like a lot — this kind of set is pretty ideal for that.

The first thing I tried was the shrimp soy sauce marinade. The shrimp felt firm and plump, giving a nice bite right from the first taste. The flesh wasn't mushy at all — it had a good springiness, and the more I chewed, the more a subtle sweetness came through, pairing well with the salty soy sauce seasoning.

Piled onto rice, this combination never fails.

Crunchy abalone soy sauce marinade

The abalone had a nice crunchy yet chewy texture.

Abalone marinated in soy sauce seasoning

Abalone's own clean flavor combined with the salty seasoning worked well with rice, and the more I chewed, the more a subtle umami came through.

Octopus, salmon, crab, and conch too

The octopus soy sauce marinade had a chewy, springy texture. It wasn't overly tough, just the right amount of chew — a dish anyone who likes seafood would reach for again. The salmon soy sauce marinade, unlike the others, was soft and mellow. Even with the same seasoning, the texture differed by ingredient, which made picking through them one by one fun.

Picking the meat out of the crab soy sauce marinade and eating it with rice, the salty seasoning combined with the crab's own umami paired well with the rice. Overall, each seafood had a slightly different texture and flavor, which made it fun to try one at a time, and I really liked being able to taste so many kinds together.

Even heartier with the potato hotpot rice

Eating just the seafood soy sauce marinades alone might have felt a bit lacking, but the potato hotpot rice served alongside made it a full meal. Piling seafood onto the warm potato hotpot rice went well with the salty seasoning, and

there were several side dishes too, so it was easy to pick whatever suited my taste. Alternating between seafood and side dishes, a whole bowl of rice disappeared quickly.

We finished with nurungji (scorched rice) tea 🫶 A really satisfying meal on this Sokcho trip ❗️

A great lunch spot on a Sokcho trip

Having eaten there myself, Sokcho Geu Badaro's biggest strength was clearly being able to taste several kinds of seafood soy sauce marinade at once.

The shrimp was firm and plump, the scallop was large and chewy, the abalone was crunchy, the octopus was springy — each had its own distinct charm.

If you're looking for a Sokcho restaurant for drinks-with-rice where you can have a drink alongside a hearty meal, this menu would work well too.

And if you're looking for a lunch spot near Sokcho Beach during your trip, it's worth considering alongside other Sokcho Beach restaurant options. If you're planning a route that includes Daepo Harbor, it's also worth comparing against other Daepo Harbor restaurant picks.

Above all, this place suits people who want to try a little of many different soy sauce marinades. If you'd rather sample a variety of seafood than eat a lot of just one dish, the seafood soy sauce platter set should be pretty satisfying. If you're looking for something a bit different from your usual meals during a Sokcho trip, give Sokcho Geu Badaro a try — from shrimp to scallop, abalone, and octopus soy sauce marinades, all in one sitting.
