Korean BBQ near Hongik Univ. Station for team dinners: Gogi Salon

Gogi Salon (고기살롱) is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Hongik Univ. Station in Mapo, Seoul, where staff grill the meat at your table. The writer ordered the meat set, which came with banchan (side dishes) such as spicy marinated raw crab, thick pork neck and bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles) chosen as the set's add-on; the room was well ventilated and the tables generously spaced for groups. For a team dinner near Hongik Univ. Station where nobody has to stay on grilling duty, Gogi Salon is a good fit.

Ganghwa duck restaurant near Jeondeungsa: perilla-piled duck, Deok Ori

Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch (덕오리주물럭 강화도본점) is a duck jumulleok (marinated stir-fried duck) restaurant on Manisan-ro in Gilsang-myeon, Ganghwa, Incheon, about 10 minutes from Jeondeungsa Temple. At Deok Ori Jumulleok, the duck is seared over a coal briquette fire, then cooked under a mountain of perilla leaves with potato, sweet pumpkin and rice cake add-ins, and the leftover sauce becomes fried rice. Deok Ori Jumulleok is a good lunch stop near Jeondeungsa for anyone who prefers natural ingredient flavor and smoky briquette aroma over harsh seasoning.

Siheung shabu-shabu with adjustable mala sauce and pasta: Pyeonbaek

Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Siheung Janggok Branch is an all-you-can-eat cypress steam, shabu-shabu and rice paper wrap restaurant on the 3rd floor of Janggok Edu Tower in Janggok-dong, Siheung, Gyeonggi. At 21,900 won per adult for two adults, the meal started with a half-and-half broth of beef bone mala and doenjang (soybean paste) chicken, moved from cypress steam to self-serve vegetables, tomato pasta and fried sides, and finished with porridge. The mala sauce came separately in a small dish so each diner could set the heat level, which makes Pyeonbaek Hoegwan an easy Janggok-dong shabu-shabu buffet even with someone who can't handle mala.
