Juno Hair Songdo Crystal Ocean is a hair salon in Songdo, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, set in an ocean-view glass-walled building inside the Songdo Xi apartment complex, where designer Junbo specializes in men's hair consulting. The writer's husband, who keeps his hair long, got a scissor-only cut with no clippers to bring out texture. Although his hair resists perms, mid-process checks gave him a voluminous long hair perm that didn't turn frizzy. Verdict: Junbo at Juno Hair Songdo Crystal Ocean is recommended for men who are particular about long-hair cuts and perms.

Gimgol Yeontan-jip Cheongna Branch is a retro Korean pork BBQ restaurant grilling over coal briquettes (yeontan) in the Cheongna food alley near Cheongna Lake Park in Incheon. A family with parents and a child visited Gimgol Yeontan-jip on a weekday, ordered the full-course set for 4 or more (pork belly, pork neck, gochujang bulgogi, flat bibim noodles and doenjang stew), added kkodeulsal (a chewy special pork cut) and finished with yeolmu bibim guksu (spicy noodles with young radish kimchi). Thick, fresh pork and an old-school atmosphere made Gimgol Yeontan-jip a family dinner even the parents loved.

Jangsodam Yeongjong Direct Store is an all-you-can-eat eel, beef and pork buffet on the 2nd floor of a building in Yeongjong Sky City, Incheon. The writer ordered Jangsodam's Set C, which swaps eel for unlimited beef in 5 cuts plus seasoned yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), and refilled the flat-laid beef short plate several times with a child. The meal also included tofu kimchi from the self-bar, Hangang ramyeon, churros with condensed milk and soft serve. With yukhoe also unlimited, Jangsodam is an easy place to get your money's worth and a good fit for family meals or group dinners in Yeongjong.

The writer browsed the shelves and tried 8 breads at Tomoru Bakery, including corn loaf, kkamang-i (squid ink bread), leaf pizza bread, choco baguette, and a choco cornet and butter tteok (buttery chewy rice bread) fresh out at the counter. Thanks to the moist, chewy dough, every bread picked at Tomoru Bakery was satisfying.

Pink Wall Cafe is a bagel bakery café in a pink building on Yongyuseo-ro in Yeongjong, Incheon, near Eulwang-ri. On a weekend visit to Pink Wall Cafe, the highlights were the pink wall photo spot, the outdoor garden with a mint-green swing, a streusel chestnut bagel with blueberry cream cheese, a vanilla latte and a yuja sangtu cookie from the review event. Drinks are on the pricey side, but Pink Wall Cafe is worth recommending if you want a relaxed, photogenic café in Yeongjong.

Songdo Italian restaurant: oil vs tomato vs cream pasta, Cenacolo

Cenacolo Artfore is an Italian restaurant on the 2nd floor of Building C in the Artfore shopping complex near Songdo Central Park in Yeonsu, Incheon. At dinner with a child, the writer ordered one dish of each sauce to compare: an oil-based abalone vongole, a tomato-based eggplant lasagna and a cream-based chamsongi mushroom risotto, with main pastas in the 20,000-won range. The truffle-scented chamsongi mushroom cream risotto was the best of the three, and cream sauces are Cenacolo Artfore's real strength.
