Busan cake shop: orange April vs yellow June mango cake, Sijeunikeu
In short
Sijeunikeu Shinsegae Department Store Centum City Branch (시즈니크) is a fruit cake shop on basement level 1 of Shinsegae Centum City in Haeundae, Busan. After an unforgettable mango cake in April, the writer bought the Sijeunikeu Mango Top Cake (Mini) again in late June for 39,000 won; the mango was less sweet than in spring but had a sweet-tart, bright yellow flavor. Even as the mango changes with the season, Sijeunikeu's mango cake is worth buying again thanks to cream that never feels heavy.

This spring I ate the mango cake at Sijeunikeu in Shinsegae Centum City and it was sooo good (x10000) that I wrote a blog post about it. Recently I was trying to decide on a café near Senteomsiti Station in Busan, but I just couldn't forget the taste of that mango cake, so I ended up going back to Sijeunikeu to buy it again.
Where is Sijeunikeu near Senteomsiti Station?
The Centum City branch is on B1 of Shinsegae Centum City, across from Starbucks and Gentle Monster! I went on a weekend and it was crowded and hard to find my way around, but once I located Gentle Monster and Starbucks first, it was easy to spot.
What cakes does Sijeunikeu sell?

They say the fruit goes through a whole 170 hours of ripening, which shows how serious they are about fruit cakes. If you have allergies, be sure to tell the staff!

Sijeunikeu sells just two fruit cakes per season. When I visited last spring it was strawberry and mango, and on my recent early-summer visit it was melon and mango!
They say they use only 100% dairy fresh cream and follow a make-and-sell-the-same-day rule. The sponge is baked in-house without emulsifiers, and apparently they make everything themselves for the best product!
I first tried Sijeunikeu in Daegu. You can only get these cakes at the Shinsegae department stores in Seoul, Daegu and Busan, so in Busan it's an even rarer cake spot.

How much is Sijeunikeu's early-summer melon cake?
The early-summer melon cakes were Melon Farm Wareureu (멜론 농장 와르르) at ₩60,000, Melon Milk Fresh Cream No. 1 at ₩48,000 and the Mini at ₩36,000. I went for the mango cake, but the melon cake looked incredible... I almost bought it, like I was in a trance.
- Melon Farm Wareureu ₩60,000
- Melon Milk Fresh Cream (No. 1) ₩48,000
- Melon Milk Fresh Cream (Mini) ₩36,000
The Wareureu series is Sijeunikeu's signature cake, and the Melon Farm Wareureu definitely stood out. It looked like something that would make both the giver and the receiver super happy.

Sijeunikeu mango cake prices and the size I chose
The mango cakes are Mango Farm Wareureu (망고농장 와르르) at ₩60,000, Mango Top Cake No. 1 at ₩53,000 and the Mini at ₩39,000. I took home the Mango Top Cake (Mini) for ₩39,000!
- Mango Farm Wareureu ₩60,000
- Mango Top Cake (No. 1) ₩53,000
- Mango Top Cake (Mini) ₩39,000
The Wareureu series costs the same for melon and mango, but the No. 1 and Mini sizes differ a bit in price!

Do you need a cooler bag for Sijeunikeu cakes in summer?
Now that it's getting hot, Sijeunikeu sells cooler bags too. If you're traveling a long way, I really recommend buying one. It would be such a waste if the fresh fruit and cream slid around, right? T.T In hot summer there's also a risk of spoilage, so you need to be extra careful.

I live close, so I just carried the cake without a cooler bag!
How did Sijeunikeu's mango cake taste in April vs late June?
The mango cake I had in April was slightly orange, but the mango I bought in late June was super bright yellow! It felt like the mango variety changed with the weather. It seemed like apple mango in spring and a yellow mango now, so it was less sweet than the spring one, but still a tangy-sweet mango cake.

Ah, honestly, Sijeunikeu's mango cake is good whenever you eat it.. Moments like this are when I feel like I've become an adult.
The mango between the cake layers is super sweet, while the mango on top is more tangy-sweet than purely sweet, so keep that in mind if you're planning to buy one! The cream isn't greasy at all and not too sweet, so you just keep scooping it up..

It's soft and sweet, so I could eat it without any coffee. The fruit was fresh, which made it even better. This was a rebuy of the Sijeunikeu mango cake near Senteomsiti Station in Busan!
