Bakery café in Hopo, Yangsan: Wageujak peach cake, grain bread, Choi
In short
Choi Main Branch (초이 본점) is a large bakery café right in front of Hopo Station in Dongmyeon, Yangsan, Gyeongnam, with views of the Nakdong River, Geumjeongsan and the train tracks. From a picture-window seat, the writer tried the peach-shaped Wageujak Peach Cake and Choi's grain bread, and liked the less-sweet cream and the nutty grain aroma. For river views and solid, well-made bread together, Choi Main Branch is worth a stop.

Where is Choi Main Branch, and what is the view like?

Choi (초이), known as a big bakery café near Busan, sits right in front of Hopo Station in Yangsan, Gyeongnam, so it is easy to reach by public transport. It is within walking distance of Hopo Station, and it is no trouble to get to by car either.
What caught my eye first on arrival was the wide-open view. The Nakdong River stretches out in front of the building, and the green of Geumjeong Mountain National Park sits behind it, a view you rarely get in the city.
Train tracks run along both sides, so it was fun to watch the trains pass by on schedule. The still nature and the moving trains together give the place a charm you don't easily find at other big cafés.
The sunset over the Nakdong River at dusk is said to be beautiful, and I could well understand why so many people time their visits for it. The place felt spacious and relaxed from the outside, and my strong impression was that this is a bakery café where you come not just to buy bread but to enjoy the scenery too.
What are the inside and the window seats like?

The inside is quite large, a great space to spend time without feeling rushed. The smell of freshly baked bread greets you at the entrance, and the warm bakery-café mood comes naturally. A wide variety of breads were on display, and each one looked carefully made.
I could see why the window seats are so popular. Through the big picture windows you take in the Nakdong River, Geumjeong Mountain and the train tracks at a glance, which is plenty for a relaxing cup of coffee. Watching the view change with the time of day, I felt like staying a long while.
The seating is varied, so it works if you come alone, and it was comfortable for family, friends or a date too. The tables are spaced generously, which is nice for chatting, and I was also pleased that the whole place felt clean and well kept.
The story that Choi bakes its bread by hand every day and prepares fresh coffee felt natural given how comfortable the place is. I thought it would be good for brunch or just a short rest.

How does the Wageujak Peach Cake taste?
Choi's Wageujak Peach Cake (와그작 복숭아 케이크) is, as the name suggests, a dessert shaped like a peach. It looked great, and the fresh peach flavor went well with the cream for a clean taste overall.
The cream wasn't too sweet, so the peach came through, and the texture was soft enough to eat without any effort. It felt seasonal and went well with coffee, and anyone who likes sweet but refreshing desserts should be happy with it. I could see why it is popular among Choi's desserts.

What is Choi's grain bread like?
Choi's grain bread felt like a back-to-basics item, just what you'd expect from a bakery café. When I tore the loaf by hand, the crumb was softly layered and a gentle grain aroma rose up. It got nuttier the more I chewed, and it was tasty enough to eat plain with nothing spread on it.
The texture was moist with a good bit of chew, so it works as a meal substitute, and I think it would go well toasted or with jam. Fancy desserts are great, but I felt a bakery's skill shows in basics like this.
Choi bakes its bread by hand every day, and the finish on even the basic loaf was satisfying. Next time I'd like to try its other bakery items too.
Overall verdict: who is Choi Main Branch for?
Choi in Hopo, Yangsan, isn't just a café that sells bread and coffee; it's a place where you enjoy the scenery too. The panoramic Nakdong River view, Geumjeong Mountain's nature and the trains passing on the tracks combine into an atmosphere that makes you want to stay. The sunset hours should be even prettier, so I think it suits a date or a family outing.
I was highly satisfied overall, from the variety of breads baked by hand daily and the fresh coffee to the comfortable seating, and the tiramisu bottle cake, the Wageujak Peach Cake and the grain bread each had a clear appeal.
Choi is a satisfying choice for a family meal out, tea with friends or a date, and also for anyone searching for a brunch spot in Yangsan or a bakery in Hopo. If you want good scenery, tasty bread and unhurried time together, I think this bakery café is worth a visit once.
