Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center is inside Jukdo Market in Pohang, known as the biggest fish market on the east coast, and parking is available. The menu I ordered this time was the red snow crab set for two!

As soon as you sit down, the Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center red snow crab set for two brings so many side dishes, such as pufferfish skin, live octopus (sannakji), corn cheese and fried crab, that the table fills up. The variety was huge, from seafood to sides.

They really do serve a lot here, lol. It's not just one or two dishes; the table filled up so fast with so many things that I was surprised. For "side dishes" they were quite generous, and it was fun trying a bit of everything, haha. The live octopus and fried crab were especially tasty, so I kept picking at them before the crab even came out 😂

When I looked for a raw fish restaurant in Jukdo Market in Pohang, I only thought of sashimi and snow crab, so I liked it even more that the side dishes were this good too.

Mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) topped with abalone

The red snow crab set for two also includes mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), and it doesn't come plain: it came topped with abalone! It was tangy and cold, great for waking up the appetite, and with the abalone in it, it looked even more generous, haha. I eat a lot of mulhoe when I'm in Pohang, and it went well with the crab too.

Next, the sashimi came out! It was neatly presented and tasted fresh, a nice light bite before the crab. Dipped in fresh wasabi and soy sauce, I think anyone who likes sashimi would be satisfied 🙂 Eating through the mulhoe and sashimi, I started looking forward to the main dish, lol.

Was the red snow crab at Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center full of meat?

The red snow crab I ate at Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center that day had quite a lot of meat in the legs, and the meat itself was sweet. They also put shrimp and clams on top of the crab as a free extra.

And then the long-awaited red snow crab appeared 🦀 It was extra nice that the extras came as a free bonus, haha. With a bit of everything piled on, rather than just crab alone, it looked generous too. The meat was sweet and I kept reaching for more 🥹 Red snow crab sometimes has hardly any meat, but the one I had that day had a good yield, so picking out the meat was fun, lol.

That moment when I thought, so this is why people look for a good snow crab place in Pohang, haha. Snow crab is great too, but that day I felt I'd had my fill of red snow crab properly.

One crab-shell rice, served split into two

If you've had crab, crab-shell rice (rice stir-fried in the crab shell) is a must, lol. At Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center I ordered one crab-shell rice and they brought it split into two, which I loved! Being able to have one each was actually more convenient 🙂↕️

The rich, nutty flavor from the crab shell blended well with the rice, and it was a treat too. I saved a little crab meat and ate it together with the crab-shell rice, and it was really delicious 🥹 This kind of dish always goes down even when you're full, lol.

Finishing with crab ramyeon and spicy fish stew

After the crab-shell rice, the red snow crab set for two brings crab ramyeon, and finally spicy fish stew (maeuntang) with rice. I thought we were finished, but there was still ramyeon left, lol.

Maybe because it's ramyeon with crab and assorted seafood, the broth had extra seafood flavor and was cool and spicy at once. I was already pretty full, but the smell of ramyeon made my chopsticks move again 😂 Finishing seafood with ramyeon seems to be the golden rule.

The last course was spicy fish stew with rice! The warm stew broth filled me up nicely, haha. After mulhoe, sashimi, crab, crab-shell rice and ramyeon, getting spicy stew at the very end felt like a truly full spread.

Is the red snow crab set for two at Jukdo Market in Pohang worth it?

If you're looking for a raw fish restaurant in Jukdo Market in Pohang, Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center seems worth a visit. The set is more generous than I expected: it doesn't end with crab, and I liked that you get mulhoe, sashimi, ramyeon and spicy stew in order.

Above all, the side dishes came in such variety that there wasn't a dull moment from start to finish, haha. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for seafood near Jukdo Market, or who wants red snow crab or snow crab while traveling in Pohang.
