Manokamana Songdo Branch (머노까머나 송도점) is an Indian curry restaurant at 107 Haedoji-ro, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, on the ground floor of Songdo The Sharp First World Building G. It's a 16-minute walk from Incheon National University Station, and it's a candidate if you're looking for a good Indian curry place in Songdo for a family meal. I went on a weekday evening with three adults and a 7-year-old. To say it up front: the menu and the atmosphere both worked fine for an adult group meal.

Manokamana Songdo Branch: exterior and dining room

The interior has the rich colors and lighting you'd expect of an Indian restaurant, with a classy feel. There are plenty of seats for groups of four or more, so it suits family meals and group gatherings. If you're hunting for a place near Songdo Central Park with some atmosphere, it's worth keeping on your list.

Manokamana Songdo menu and what we ordered

The menu is broad: sets, appetizers, tandoori, chicken, lamb, vegetable and prawn curries, naan and rice, plus lassi, beer and wine. Lassi goes well with the spicy curries, and beer or wine pairing works for group gatherings. It's sorted by category, so even a first visit wasn't hard to order from.

How were the samosas, butter naan and basmati rice?

Think of the samosa as an Indian dumpling. Mashed potato, peas and spices are stuffed inside a fried pastry, so the first bite is crispy and the filling is fluffy. You dip it in chili sauce, and it works well as an appetizer.

The butter naan has visible layers and is chewy yet soft. It comes freshly baked, so it's best dipped into the curry while warm. Compared with the amount of curry, the naan can run short, so I'd order one or two more than the number of people.

Basmati rice is made from Indian rice. It's so light it feels like it would blow away, and it mixes nicely with the curry sauce. The yellow color comes from saffron.

Butter chicken curry (₩13,000): the mildest of the three

The butter chicken curry is ₩13,000 and the most easygoing of the three. A tomato base with added cream makes it rich yet smooth, a good fit if spicy food worries you. The chicken thigh pieces inside are big, so it was satisfying to chew too.

Mutton palak (₩14,000): lamb and spinach curry at spice level 1

Mutton palak is ₩14,000, a lamb curry on a spinach base. It's marked spice level 1, so even people new to spiced food shouldn't find it overwhelming. The distinctive lamb flavor meets the green spinach sauce and lands with real weight; it went best mixed with basmati rice.

Chili prawn (₩15,500): shrimp curry at spice level 2

Chili prawn is ₩15,500 and spice level 2. It has plump shrimp, and the heat of tomato plus a cheongyang-chili-style kick (Korean hot green chili) is clear. If you like spicy food, go for this one; if you're not good with spice, pair it with a glass of lassi.

Which order to eat the curries in, and how many to order

Eating the three curries in the order butter chicken (mild) → mutton palak (medium) → chili prawn (spicy) lets you ease into the heat naturally. It's also fun to put all three on one plate and compare. For two adults, two curries plus two naan and one bowl of basmati rice should make a hearty meal.

Is Manokamana Songdo Branch good for a 7-year-old?

I went with a 7-year-old, and in the end the only thing the child ate was the butter naan. Even the non-spicy butter chicken curry barely got touched, since the spices themselves weren't familiar. There's no kids' menu, and nothing Koreanized like curry rice, so the options for a child's palate are limited. If you're planning a family meal with a young child, the realistic move is to order plenty of butter naan and keep the non-spicy butter chicken curry on the table.
