Teppanyaki restaurant at Songdo Triple Street: 3 dishes compared, Jojo

In short

Jojo Triple Street Branch (죠죠 트리플스트리트점) is a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant on the first floor of Building C at Songdo Triple Street in Yeonsu, Incheon. On a late weekday lunch, two people ordered the signature okonomiyaki, Jojo yakisoba and shio fried rice as single dishes and compared all three for 43,000 won in total. At Jojo, adding the mild shio fried rice between the rich, saucy dishes keeps the meal from getting heavy right to the end.

What did we order at Jojo in Songdo Triple Street?

At Jojo Triple Street Branch (죠죠 트리플스트리트점) we ordered three single dishes: the Jojo signature okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake), Jojo yakisoba (stir-fried noodles) and shio fried rice. The total came to ₩43,000. I was hunting for a good place at Songdo Triple Street and ended up at Jojo, which serves Japanese teppanyaki.

We went for a late lunch on a weekday at 1:30 pm, just the two of us. I figured it would be quiet, but six tables were already eating when we walked in, which surprised me a little.

How many hours of free parking at Triple Street Building C?

If you drive to Jojo, use the Building C underground car park. There was no parking registration or receipt check, and it was free for up to 5 hours after entry. That leaves plenty of time to browse Songdo Hyundai Premium Outlet or Triple Street before or after your meal.

Just note that the car park can get crowded on weekends or at busy times.

What are the atmosphere and seating like at Jojo?

The inside of Jojo is decorated with wooden walls and tables, so it felt warm and cozy. I assumed it would be empty at 1:30 on a weekday, yet six tables were already eating. It was unexpected that people come even for a late lunch.

The kitchen is open, so you can watch the cooking. After our order went in, we could see okonomiyaki and stir-fried dishes being made on the griddle.

Every table has a wide iron griddle in the middle. The finished okonomiyaki is placed on it, so we could eat it warm right down to the last bite.

Each table also has two storage boxes for belongings, so bags and coats don't have to go on the floor.

How ordering works at Jojo: the paper order with a nickname flag

A staff member hands you a sheet of paper, and you write your nickname on the front and the menu items you want on the back. The ordering style is a little unusual.

They cut off the top part with your nickname and stick it into the finished okonomiyaki like a tiny flag. It's a small thing, but you instantly recognize it as your order, and it made for a memorable detail in photos.

How much do dishes cost at Jojo?

  • Jojo signature okonomiyaki ₩17,000
  • Jojo yakisoba ₩14,000
  • Shio fried rice ₩12,000

There was also an event where writing a Naver receipt review lets you pick a drink, Coca-Cola Zero or Sprite. Menu prices and the event are as of our visit and may change later.

Table waiting for the food ordered at Jojo

We were told the okonomiyaki takes about 15 minutes to cook. The staff asked whether we wanted each dish as it was ready or everything at once after all were done. We wanted to alternate between the three dishes, so we asked for everything together.

How does Jojo's signature okonomiyaki taste?

The Jojo signature okonomiyaki (₩17,000) is the restaurant's flagship, with shrimp, squid, beef and pork all inside. It came out thick, domed in the middle, and generously coated with special sauce and mayonnaise.

You cut it into bite-size pieces with the individual cutter on your small plate. Split in half, it had shredded cabbage, meat and seafood inside. The texture changes a bit with every bite, which is more fun to chew than a version with just one filling.

It wasn't just a thick slab of flour batter; the cabbage was packed in densely. I also liked that it stays on the table griddle after it's done, so it kept its warmth for a long time while we ate.

How spicy is the fire sauce on Jojo's tables?

The fire sauce on the table is quite spicy, just like its name. I tried a little, but the regular sauce as it comes suited my taste better.

Rather than adding a lot from the start, a small amount once the sauce flavor starts to feel samey seemed like the way to go.

What does Jojo yakisoba taste like?

The Jojo yakisoba (₩14,000) also has shrimp, squid, beef and pork. A fried egg sits on top of noodles stir-fried in special sauce, with pink pickled ginger on the side.

The noodles are thicker than ordinary thin stir-fried noodles. The special sauce coats them evenly, so the seasoning came across as pleasantly salty. With shrimp, squid and meat in there, it was fun to pick out the fillings now and then instead of eating only noodles.

You can add toppings if there's something you want, and if several people are sharing, you can upgrade to a double size for ₩3,000 extra. If the standard portion looks too small, choose the size according to your group.

Is Jojo's shio fried rice light and mild?

The Jojo shio fried rice (₩12,000) is Osaka-style fried rice stir-fried in shio (salt) sauce, and it was milder in seasoning than the okonomiyaki and yakisoba. It has shrimp, squid, beef and pork with cabbage and bean sprouts, topped with a fried egg.

Where the okonomiyaki and yakisoba have a rich sauce flavor, the shio fried rice was comparatively mild. The shrimp and squid still showed grill marks from the griddle, and the bean sprouts and cabbage added more texture than plain rice would.

Since the seasoning isn't aggressive, it looked like a fine pick if you come with a child. When we ordered all three, the shio fried rice also worked as a break from the rich sauce flavors.

Verdict: 3 single dishes at Jojo, Songdo Triple Street

Jojo at Songdo Triple Street let us compare not just okonomiyaki but also yakisoba and fried rice in one sitting. The signature okonomiyaki had a satisfying chew from the variety of meat and seafood, and the yakisoba was defined by thick noodles and a salty special sauce. The shio fried rice was comparatively gentle, which made it a good one to order alongside.

The downside: if you eat several rich-sauce dishes in a row, they can start to taste alike toward the end. Eating the shio fried rice or the side dishes in between made it easier on me.

Six tables were eating even at a late weekday lunch. Weekends and mealtimes can be busier, so if you don't want to wait, I recommend reserving in advance through Catch Table. If you're looking for Japanese teppanyaki near Songdo Hyundai Outlet or in Songdo New City, take this as a casual guide to the menu and prices.
