Clam grill pub in Gyodong, Daegu on a rainy day: rosé gratin, Nampo
In short
Nampo (남포) is a clam grill pub with patio seating in Gyodong, Jung-gu, Daegu, at 238 Gyeongsanggamyeong-gil. On a rainy day, the writer skipped the patio for Nampo's air-conditioned indoor seating and ordered the clam grill (59,000 won for 2–3 people): scallops, pen shell, abalone and shrimp, finished with three cheeses and a rosé-sauce clam gratin. Fresh seafood with no fishy smell and generous cheese made Nampo a satisfying choice even on a rainy day.

I went to Nampo, the patio pub that's already famous for giving you camping vibes and street-stall (pojangmacha) vibes right in the middle of the city.

Where is Nampo, what are the hours, and is there parking?
Nampo is at 238 Gyeongsanggamyeong-gil, Jung-gu, Daegu, 500 m on foot from Exit 3 of Jungangno Station (Line 1). Hours are Mon–Thu 18:00 to 02:00 the next day, Fri–Sat 17:00 to 03:00, and Sunday 17:00 to 02:00. The restaurant has its own parking.

What is Nampo's indoor seating like on a rainy day?
If you visit Nampo on a rainy day, you'll sit indoors or under the tent instead of out on the patio. I had to give up on the patio because of the rain... *drip, drip* 😢 I was sad to miss the camping vibe, but once I stepped inside, the air conditioning was blasting, it felt cool and comfortable, and the interior was so good‼️ haha

Peek-a-boo, there's a fish tank! This is where the fresh clams come from!

The classy marble tables came with individual burners and a neat setup. With the dark-toned interior, the lighting and even the pebbles on the grill, the mood was calm yet stylish!

Nampo's courtyard patio and tent seating
On the courtyard side of Nampo there's a huge tent structure that keeps out wind and rain. The inside is way bigger than I expected and kept nice and clean.

This is the wide patio space in the courtyard. It's the kind of place that stirs up camping feelings or the nostalgia of an old-school street stall... but sadly it was raining the day I visited, so it was all bundled up 😢😢

The place is so big that they've set things up so you can grab what you need yourself. Hip Nampo even has seats where you can drop the tent sides in the rain and grill clams inside with a lovely atmosphere‼️

Can you drive to Nampo in Gyodong?
Parking around Gyodong and Dongseongno is so hard that I usually hesitate to bring a car, but right in front of Nampo there's a dedicated parking space (or a lot right across), fully taken care of.

Nampo's menu and clam grill price
What I ordered at Nampo was the clam grill for ₩59,000 (2–3 people).

They say if you turn on Naver Reservation notifications, you get a coupon for a free seafood ramyeon or mukchammari (acorn jelly roll) ☝️
I booked through Naver and when I got there, they'd written a three-line acrostic poem with my name!! So thoughtful 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I was in a good mood before even eating, haha

Free shabu-shabu and pork cutlet with every order
At Nampo, shabu-shabu (hot pot of thinly sliced meat and vegetables) comes as standard, and it was clear and light (₩5,000 for an extra serving).

Pork cutlet and salad come out too.
When to flip the clams on the grill
☝️When the clams cook over gentle low heat, there comes a moment when the meat pops softly off the shell. Flip them right then and grill them lightly once more 🔥

What comes in Nampo's clam grill, and how does it taste?
One tray of Nampo's clam grill comes with scallops, pen shell, abalone, shrimp and more. Not long after we sat down, the main clam grill arrived 😋 The seafood was packed so tightly the huge plate felt cramped‼️‼️

The abalone looked freshly pulled from the tank and was alive and kicking 🦪 Rainy days usually make things smell fishier, but Nampo had no fishy smell at all.

The star of Nampo's clam grill: three cheeses
It's no exaggeration to say the amount of cheese is the real star here, hahaha. At most clam-grill places they sprinkle on a teasing little bit or charge a lot extra, but Nampo was in a different class!!👀👀
As I started putting clams on the grill one by one, the creamy cheese and the milky clam broth that forms naturally as they cook mixed together and bubbled away~
I scooped up a nicely cooked scallop with a spoon, and the cheese stretched on forever. In the mouth, the chewy, sweet clam and the rich, nutty flavor of the three cheeses were the best! Not tough at all, just tender and so good....🥹

Rosé-sauce clam gratin at Nampo
The foil container was packed with clams and rosé sauce, and when I simmered the sauce down on the grill, it turned into a gratin!!👍🏻

And a final ice cream to cleanse the palate makes it perfect 👏🏻👏🏻

Verdict: who should go to Nampo?
Nampo in Gyodong, Daegu is more than just a pub: it satisfies your eyes, your mouth and your mood. The quality of the fresh seafood is top 👍🏻 Even though the rain meant I couldn't enjoy the patio atmosphere 100% this time, I plan to come back soon on a nice day.
