Suseongmot Indian restaurant: beef curry on garlic naan, Rama & Bavana
In short
Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch is an Indian restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building right in front of Suseongmot in Suseong, Daegu, and it has been running since 2004. At an open-window seat, the writer had tandoori tikka, beef curry with garlic naan and blueberry lassi; the spices were not strong, and topping the garlic naan with the chuck flap beef from the curry was the standout combination. Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch suits a date or group outing on a day when you want something different to eat, followed by a walk around Suseongmot.

What is Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch like?
Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch is an Indian restaurant near Suseongmot in Daegu. There are lots of great eateries around Suseongmot, which I love, but this time I skipped the usual stuff and went for something a little different. Ta-da~ it's the Indian restaurant Rama & Bavana (라마앤바바나)!
It's been around since 2004, so it turns out to be a pretty well-known Indian place in Daegu. Being near Suseongmot, it works for dates, family meals or hanging out with friends, so I'd like to recommend it. Indian food can feel a little unfamiliar because of the spices, but Rama & Bavana tones the strong spice flavors way down, and I liked that there were plenty of dishes Korean diners can enjoy comfortably.

Where is it, and how is the parking?
Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch is right in front of Suseongmot, so it's easy to find, and there's a dedicated parking lot behind the building. You can take a walk around Suseongmot before or after your meal, which is nice. If the lot is full, they say you can call the restaurant for directions, so keep that in mind~

What are the atmosphere and seating like?
The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the building, with a comfortable wood-toned feel. Despite being an Indian restaurant, it isn't overly exotic or intimidating; it feels like a restaurant where anyone can eat comfortably.

The open kitchen is kept neat and clean, so I trusted how the food was being prepared. It's packed with exotic ingredients, haha!

Window seats with the windows open
The window-side seats are especially great. The weather has been cool lately, and with the windows left open the mood was even better. Total outdoor-drinking-spot vibes!!
You can look at the scenery outside from the window tables while you eat, which I think guests love even more.
Baby chairs and group seating
They have baby chairs, and it's a good place to meet up with friends. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a gathering spot in Suseong-gu^^ There are other seating areas besides the windows, so groups don't need to worry.

You get good food and the Suseongmot atmosphere together, so it also suits a date.

What's on the menu?
For curry, you can choose chicken, shrimp or beef. Curry and naan (flatbread) are the first things that come to mind with Indian food, but they also have nasi goreng (Indonesian fried rice), poo pad pong curry, seafood teppan fried rice, shrimp bacon fried rice and tandoori dishes. There's pizza, lassi (yogurt drink) and more too, so you can pick whatever suits your taste.

I ordered tandoori tikka, beef curry and blueberry lassi. With the beef curry you can choose rice, naan or garlic naan, and I went with the garlic naan because it looked so good. There's also a Naver receipt review event going on, so join in and get a freebie~

This is what I ordered. Looks delicious from the first glance, right~ haha. The window view of Suseongmot made the mood totally perfect too.

What does the tandoori tikka taste like?
The tandoori tikka is chicken thigh and shrimp brushed with a special tikka sauce, skewered and grilled over an open flame. A subtle smoky flavor comes through, and the grilled meat tasted great.

The chicken thigh was juicy and tender, and I enjoyed it. The spice smell especially wasn't strong, so it wasn't overwhelming at all.

The shrimp were plump with a nice texture and tasted good too.

The tandoori chicken was crispy outside and juicy inside, really well grilled. The salad was varied, fresh and generous, and there was rice too, which was nice to have later with the curry.
How was the beef curry with garlic naan?
The beef curry is a beef curry simmered with plenty of vegetables and beef flat iron (bucchaesal, a tender cut of beef shoulder), with a rich, deep flavor.

There's a generous amount of beef, and the more you chew, the more savory beef flavor you get, pairing well with the smooth taste of the curry.
I ate the rice that came with the tandoori tikka together with the beef curry, and it was so good. The curry isn't overdone; it's slightly spicy yet addictive, so my hand kept going back for more.
Add garlic naan and it's absolutely amazing. They even gave me plastic gloves so it's easy to eat. Tear off warm, chewy garlic naan by hand and dunk it deep into the beef curry, and the curry's rich flavor and the garlic aroma come together nicely.
Especially when you put the beef on top of the garlic naan, it's savory and the flavor is just amazing. There was plenty of beef, so I was really satisfied.

What's the blueberry lassi like?
The blueberry lassi is sweet-tart and smooth, perfect to drink after curry and tandoori dishes. The mellow, tangy taste of yogurt with the sweetness of blueberries cleans up your mouth.

Who is Rama & Bavana Suseong Lake Branch for?
Eating at Rama & Bavana and then walking around Suseongmot makes a perfect course, and it's just right for anyone wanting something a little different. Even as Indian food, the spice isn't excessive and there are lots of dishes you can enjoy comfortably, and the atmosphere is nice too, so I highly recommend it as a meeting spot.
