Italian terrace spot in Sangmu, Gwangju: bisque rosé pasta, Camel Orzo

Today I'm introducing Camel Orzo (카멜오르조), a Sangmu favorite with an Italian-style terrace, a refined, upscale mood, exotic dishes made with fresh ingredients, and desserts to finish. Everything about it is just right.

Word got around that the owner also runs Maekmundong, and Camel Orzo opened in September 2025. For its 1st anniversary it's running all kinds of events and rolling out new and seasonal dishes, so it's a place to enjoy a special meal right in the middle of Sangmu 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Camel Orzo hours, break time and parking

Camel Orzo is at 261 Uncheon-ro, Seo-gu, Gwangju (Urban Peak Sangmu, 1st floor, Unit 102) and is open daily 11:00–23:00. Break time is 15:30–17:00 on weekdays and 16:00–17:00 on weekends, and last order is at 21:00.

Where is the Camel Orzo entrance in Urban Peak Sangmu?

Camel Orzo is on the ground floor of the Urban Peak building in Sangmu ✨ Go in between Yeonhaneun (연어하다) and Café Knotted and you'll find the entrance~~

The exterior has a stylish European look 💘 It's rare to see this kind of vibe in Gwangju, so it feels extra special!

Fitting for a restaurant that sticks to authentic Italian cooking, there are little Italian flags stuck in, which is so cute 🇮🇹

On a sunny day, a leisurely brunch at the outdoor tables is perfect :) Sangmu is always crowded and busy, so I loved this relaxed, healing atmosphere, the first I've found there 🫶🏻

At the entrance you first notice the Catch Table (reservation) device, a high chair and a wine fridge ^_^ I came a little after mealtime, so I got in right away with no wait 🍀

The inside is full of European mood too 🏰 I immediately thought it would be great for a couple's date~ Highly recommended for a blind date as well 😘

The soft lighting and rattan furniture made the brunch taste even better >_<

The window seats had a lot of charm, and the sofa seats further in are cozy, so each table can relax however suits them ꈍꈊꈍ

The interior is spacious, so I'd recommend it for group gatherings too ෆ⃛ ෆ⃛ ෆ⃛

Soup and salad, primo and polpo (octopus)

There's paella, pizza, polpo, steak, pasta and more, so many kinds of Western dishes that I wanted to order a bunch and try each flavor 😋😋

There's lots of wine, plus coffee, tea, desserts, ades and other drinks to go with it >_< It's great for a glass of wine 🍷 on a special day, or for a full course from brunch through dessert ✨

How does Camel Orzo's red shrimp bisque rosé pasta taste?

Camel Orzo's red shrimp bisque rosé pasta comes with red shrimp neatly lined up on top 🍝 Bisque is a sauce often used in fine dining, made by sautéing shrimp heads. I was told this one is made with French lobster bisque sauce, seafood stock and gourmet butter, and compared with an ordinary rosé pasta it had a richer flavor and a deep, seafood-driven taste that I really loved.

The thickness doesn't come from cream but from slowly sautéing shrimp heads, so it felt even more mellow and savory. The noodles had soaked up the seasoning too, great umami 🤤

Nom nom with the red shrimp ₍՞ • 🐽 • ՞₎ The shrimp pops when you bite it, which was so fun!

Sweet potato fries with pistachio honey

I also ordered the sweet potato fries (₩7,500) 🍠 I'm a total lover of root-vegetable snacks, so I just couldn't pass this one up haha

The crispy fried sweet potato had the oil drained off, so even though it's fried it wasn't greasy or soggy, which I liked. It's a sweet potato that's tasty on its own, fried, and then dipped in honey sauce. How could it not be good,,,😘

Dipped in pistachio honey, it's moist and sweet 🫶🏻🫶🏻 I think it would make a great beer snack too ♬

Would I go back to Camel Orzo in Sangmu?

Camel Orzo is a place where you can experience authentic Italian dining that's hard to find in Gwangju. The exotic mood, the relaxed interior and the kind staff made for an even more pleasant meal.
