Went to Bongja Makchang Daegu Jongno Branch, a well-known spot in Jongno, Daegu~ If you love makchang (grilled pork intestine), you seriously need to know this place!! We ate ourselves full with one plate + half plate, and with unlimited steamed egg, ramyeon, and patbingsu (shaved ice dessert) refills, the value was seriously good. I took a ton of photos so let me walk you through it slowly~~

It was almost fully seated just 30 minutes after opening;!!
Why I picked Bongja Makchang Daegu Jongno Branch
Honestly, there's no shortage of makchang places in Daegu. But while searching for good restaurants in Jongno, Daegu, this Bongja Makchang Daegu Jongno Branch kept popping up!!!

There's really one reason — among Jongno BBQ spots, this is the one that gives you unlimited refills of doenjang ramyeon + steamed egg + patbingsu, all three!!! When you're just eating makchang, it can get a bit heavy after a while. But here you can cleanse your palate with the refill menu in between, and I couldn't believe it was real haha.

First impressions & the vibe
The moment you open the door at Bongja Makchang Daegu Jongno Branch, the smell of grilling meat hits you, which is exactly the makchang restaurant feel. Tables had generous spacing too, perfect for after-work gatherings or big groups. * There really were a lot of people. Great to go with friends, and not a stressful spot for family either — it really felt like a solid restaurant in Jongno, Daegu.

Side dishes were lettuce salad, kimchi, bean sprouts, chopped chili, makjang sauce, garlic, and pickled onion. The basic setup alone was generous, so I was satisfied from the start. * You can also grab unlimited extras from the self-bar.
The real strong point of this place (feat. makchang quality)

First off, the raw makchang itself has real thickness and zero smell!! * I regret only ordering the half plate with the Bongja set — you should get the full plate.

They also grill bracken fern and bean sprouts alongside, and eating these with the makchang really cuts the richness — I remember refilling them again and again. That's the most important point when picking a makchang restaurant, and Bongja Makchang Daegu Jongno Branch definitely passes on this front.

We also ordered the seasoned makchang, and the sweet-salty balance was just right, so my chopsticks kept going back!! * It comes out perfectly grilled without burning, and it's just so good???
What we ate – Bongja Set 1, ₩34,000
We ordered the Bongja Set 1, one plate + half plate, for ₩34,000.

Honestly at first we planned to go all out with the Bongja Full Set (one plate + one plate) for ₩41,000, but since it was just the two of us, adding a half plate seemed like the better fit, so we switched the order. * Truthfully, it was so we'd have room for the kimchi noodles haha.

The portion of kimchi noodles was insane!!! In the end, the amount was just right, and we filled up any remaining space with steamed egg and ramyeon, so I think we made the right call haha.
Unlimited steamed egg, 7 kinds of ramyeon, and patbingsu
The makchang comes pre-cooked once, so grilling it crispy after that made it even more delicious, and the unlimited steamed egg at Bongja Makchang Daegu Jongno Branch is so soft and moist! I just kept picking at it like a side dish, no rice needed 👀

The ramyeon has a whopping 7 kinds on unlimited refill, so it was fun picking based on mood, and we finished it off with cool, refreshing unlimited patbingsu. Honestly, I'd call this one of the best value restaurants in Jongno, Daegu.

Final verdict
Honestly, there are plenty of places that just do makchang well, but it's rare to find one that also covers steamed egg, ramyeon, and patbingsu all as unlimited refills. If you're torn on where to get makchang in Jongno, Daegu, this place will settle it, and next time I'm planning to go all out with the Bongja Full Set. If you're looking for a makchang restaurant in Jongno, Daegu, I highly recommend Bongja Makchang Daegu Jongno Branch haha😊
