What tonkatsu did I have near Hyochang Park Station?
While looking for a filling meal near Hyochang Park Station, I visited Yongsan Donkatsu Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, Yongsan branch (용산돈까스온정경양식당 용산점). I chose it because I wanted familiar Western-style tonkatsu.
The fact that it was Western-style tonkatsu made with Korean pork caught my eye. As I looked over the restaurant banner, I wondered about the texture of the meat and breading.
What are the menu prices and ordering process?
At the time of my visit, the Western-style tonkatsu made with Korean pork was ₩13,000, while the buckwheat soba (buckwheat noodles) and cheddar tonkatsu was ₩15,000. I ordered and tried both.
It was convenient to order at the kiosk.
How much comes with the basic Western-style tonkatsu?
The basic Western-style tonkatsu came with two cutlets. Sauce was poured over the crisp-fried cutlets, and the accompanying items made it a filling meal.
The side dishes were kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and danmuji (pickled yellow radish), along with a clean-tasting soup and about a fist-sized serving of rice. I could use the self-service bar if I needed more rice.
The cabbage was sweet, tangy, and crisp. Each meal also came with a piece of bread.
After taking a photo of the full spread, I cut into the tonkatsu. The cross-section showed the breading and grain of the meat.
I also made a tonkatsu burger with the bread that came with it. It was tasty with strawberry jam added.
Do cheddar tonkatsu and buckwheat soba go well together?
The buckwheat soba and cheddar tonkatsu set let me enjoy the rich cheese flavor alongside cool noodles.
When I lifted a piece of tonkatsu with my fork, I could taste its nutty flavor along with the rich cheddar. The cheese's savory, salty character blended naturally with the tonkatsu.
Having some buckwheat soba in between was nice because I could alternate with something cool. I could taste the buckwheat aroma and the chewy noodle texture, and the broth was refreshing too.
I was satisfied with both the basic tonkatsu's two-cutlet portion and the cheddar tonkatsu and soba combination. It was tasty and filling enough that I would consider visiting again.
