Jungguksung Ilgeup Yorisa-ui Jip (중국성 일급요리사의 집) is a Chinese restaurant in Jisan-dong, Suseong, Daegu, whose signature dish is ganjajang (dry-fried black bean noodles). On a day of nonstop rain, the writer's family shared spicy jjamppong (seafood noodle soup, ₩8,500), ganjajang (₩9,000), mini tangsuyuk (₩5,900) and 10 fried dumplings (₩5,000), and the fiery jjamppong broth and the ganjajang made with house-made aged noodles stood out. The family went to Jungguksung Ilgeup Yorisa-ui Jip for jjamppong and came home won over by the ganjajang.

Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch (벽돌생갈비 종로점) is a fresh beef galbi (grilled short rib) restaurant in Jongno, Jung-gu, Daegu. The writer and a friend ordered 500g of brick fresh galbi for 58,000 won, and the Jangjak staff grilled it from start to finish, then carved the meat off each bone and grilled it again. For juicy, tender galbi plus every chewy bit of rib-bone meat, Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch is worth a visit.
