Weekend briquette BBQ in Goseong-dong, Daegu: 15-min wait, Sangnok

Sangnok Hoegwan Yeontan Gui Goseong Branch is a newly opened briquette-grill pork BBQ restaurant in the Goseong-dong food alley in Buk-gu, Daegu. After booking a weekend dinner and still waiting about 15 minutes, the writer grilled the pork geun set (600g, 35,000 won) of pork belly skirt (apsal), belly-lining cut, pork belly, pork neck, jowl-neck and pork skin over the coals, then finished with mul-naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth). At Sangnok Hoegwan, the nicely marbled apsal and pork belly were the most satisfying cuts.

The writer ranked Cafe Dongyi Chimsan Branch first among all the Cafe Dongyi branches for its unlimited self-serve fried eggs, fast cooking and friendly service. The koji tangsuyuk was so good the writer took some home, making it a satisfying solo meal.

From the kimchi pancake, silkworm pupae and steamed egg side dishes to the Chinese-restaurant-style jajang egg rice, Ttukbang satisfied them, and they want to return for the makchang.

Don Gukbap's good-value meat and generous free extras make it easy to see why so many regulars keep coming back.
