A hip coffee and dessert café in Guui-dong
In early August the weather suddenly got really hot. On days like this, it has to be cold bingsu (Korean shaved ice), haha. I had a quick errand near Children's Grand Park, and after walking around sweating buckets and running low on sugar, one "Shall we get bingsu?" sent me straight to searching, haha. I only meant to grab a bingsu, but I ended up enjoying barista coffee and desserts too 🤎

Getting there and the exterior
You get here by walking the park and strolling slowly down from Children's Grand Park Station.
I thought it was just a neighborhood coffee shop, but they're seriously into coffee... I'm so looking forward to barista-made coffee! And they have bingsu too, haha.
The roasting machine and the bean lineup are displayed along one side, and browsing them is surprisingly fun.
The dessert showcase was packed too, and it took forever just to decide what to eat, haha. Even on a weekday afternoon, takeout customers kept coming and going. You can really tell it has lots of regulars!
I love scones so much... egg tarts,, financiers too... and butter tteok...
My husband, who normally doesn't eat sweets, surprisingly picked up a chocolate scone. Bright red raspberry sauce sits on top of the rich chocolate scone, and the color combo is pretty already. 🖤

The cool air-conditioning the moment we walked in felt like a lifesaver ^-^ Around 2 p.m. there were quite a few people.

It's much bigger inside than it looks from outside. There are two-person tables, four-person tables and even bar seats, so it doesn't feel awkward to come alone.
The hip plants are fun to look at too.
Perfect for a date in Guui-dong too!

An americano where you pick the beans and pour the shot yourself
When you choose an americano, you then choose the bean blend, and the staff explain the flavor of each bean in great detail. We started with one decaf. And if you drink in the café, you get a refill too~~!
The ice cup and the shot come separately. You pour it in yourself to finish it, so isn't this basically a barista experience? ^-^
For the refill I picked the fruity Yellow Blend. It opens with a soft jasmine-like aroma and floral coffee blossom notes, then leaves a subtle acidity of plum and peach. An americano that really suits summer!
The acidity isn't sharp, so it's lovely to sip slowly.
Chocolate raspberry scone
Press the chocolate scone with a fork and it crumbles with a soft crunch. Rich chocolate and fresh raspberry alternate. Paired with the fruity coffee, the combination was really good.
What does butter tteok taste like?
Honestly, I'd never properly had butter tteok (butter rice cake), so I took the chance! The outside is fried golden brown and looks mouthwatering. One bite, and the outside is crispy like a glutinous rice doughnut with the rich aroma of butter-fried goodness. But the inside is chewy like tteok!! It feels like it'll make you gain weight instantly, but it's really delicious.......
Milk bingsu with soybean powder
The bingsu has a generous mound of red beans on white milk ice, covered softly in nutty soybean powder (konggaru). Rice cake pieces are tucked in too.
The moment you take a spoonful, the nutty soybean powder aroma hits first. Since it's milk bingsu, the ice isn't crunchy; it melts away in your mouth. It's lightly sweet, not overdone, so you keep eating! The red beans aren't dry either, and are boiled soft.

On a sweltering summer day, I went in for one bingsu and came out having enjoyed great coffee and sweet desserts too. Picking your own beans is fun, so coffee lovers will end up sitting here a long time. It's good for a cool drink after a walk in Children's Grand Park, and for sitting quietly alone!
