Sokcho tofu restaurant, sundubu and house-made kimchi: Daecheongmaru
Daecheongmaru (대청마루) is a hanok-style Korean restaurant specializing in sundubu (soft tofu stew) and dried pollack at 430 Gwangwang-ro in Sokcho, Gangwon, opening at 7:20 a.m. The writer ordered spicy sundubu (15,000 won) and hwangtae haejangguk (dried pollack hangover soup) on a table tablet, eaten with kimchi the restaurant says it makes from Korean-grown cabbage and chili powder, plus soy-marinated shrimp and braised pollack side dishes. Two minutes from Cheoksan Hot Spring and 10 minutes by car from the Seoraksan cable car, Daecheongmaru is a good first meal of the day on a Sokcho trip.
