Orange Bagel is a large three-floor bakery café on Omokcheon-ro in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, with its own parking lot and a rooftop. Gwanggyo dessert café: hand-pick 6 jeonggwa, Haenggung Daol

Haenggung Daol is a dessert café specializing in gaeseong juak (fried honey rice cakes) and handmade jeonggwa (candied fruits, nuts and roots), on the first floor of Forena Gwanggyo in Suwon, Gyeonggi. As a thank-you gift for their parents, the writer took home the Daol No.10-A nut jeonggwa set and six hand-picked pieces, all wrapped in bojagi (Korean wrapping cloth), and liked the kumquat jeonggwa and gaeseong yakgwa best. Verdict: the Haenggung Daol sweets were gone in under 30 minutes, so next time the writer plans to buy even more.

Suwon grilled fish, same mackerel as Pyeongtaek original: Godeungeo

Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is a Korean restaurant specializing in grilled fish, sashimi and braised fish on Seobu-ro in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, near Homaesil. A fan of the Pyeongtaek main branch ordered grilled mackerel for 16,000 won and grilled bakdae (a type of sole) for 20,000 won. The mackerel was crisp outside and moist inside, just like in Pyeongtaek, and came with self-bar side dish refills, seaweed soup and sikhye after the meal. With a large parking lot and many tables for four, Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is a good grilled fish spot in Suwon for family meals and get-togethers.

Seafood nurungji spot in Gosaek, Suwon: lunch with parents at Baeksae

Baeksae Dolsot Haemul Nurungji Tang is a newly opened stone pot seafood nurungji (scorched rice soup) restaurant in Gosaek-dong, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, right next to Baeksae Samgyetang. On a lunch out with parents and a child, the family ordered the jeongabok stone pot nurungji soup (28,000 won), the Baeksae stone pot seafood nurungji soup (18,000 won) and a large fruit sweet and sour chicken (35,000 won). The rich broth, loaded with abalone, sea cucumber and pine mushroom, stayed hot to the last spoonful in the stone pot. With a large private parking lot and private rooms, Baeksae Dolsot Haemul Nurungji Tang is worth a return visit for a nourishing family lunch.

Susan Jang Suwon Yeongtong Branch (수산장 수원영통점) is an aged-sashimi izakaya near Yeongtong Station in Suwon, known as the place with no signboard. Sitting at the counter, the blogger drank solo with a Shomaek, glasses of Kagoshima sweet potato shochu, fresh kushikatsu and the new Jangheung butter scallop and beef brisket samhap, plus the free grilled flounder served to every table. Even the non-sashimi dishes at Susan Jang are delicious, which makes it an enjoyable spot for a drink on your own.
