Hongdae chicken spot with 2nd-floor window seats: Goobne Red Road
In short
Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road (굽네치킨 홍대레드로드점) is an oven-roasted chicken restaurant in an alley near KT&G Sangsangmadang in Hongdae, Mapo, Seoul. The writer visited on a holiday afternoon and had a Namhae Garlic Basasak combo, wedge fries from a review event and Budweiser draft beer at a floor-to-ceiling window seat on the 2nd floor. Because the chicken isn't fried, Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road is a good place to start a light daytime drink.

A holiday afternoon of outdoor-style chicken and beer at Goobne Hongdae Red Road
If you're looking for a late-night food that won't make you gain weight, okay, that makes you gain a little less weight, you need to meet Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road. I live nearby and often order Goobne for delivery, but the weather was so nice this day that I went to the restaurant itself to get that outdoor-drinking vibe, and I absolutely demolished it. Haha. If you like Goobne, join me, for sure :)

Where is Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road?
Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road is in an alley close to Sangsangmadang in Hongdae. Walk past the crowded main street and into the alley, and you'll find a quiet, pleasant Goobne. If you're meeting someone for a drink in Hongdae, it's worth a visit.

It's not fried chicken, so I can polish off a whole bird by myself. Goo-goo-goobne! Haha. I'd been sick lately and wanted to eat well and live well again, so I used my holiday to go day drinking. Have a light beer in the daytime, then bar-hop around Hongdae for round two, and that's the perfect day. So if you're visiting Hongdae, start easy with Goobne! Haha.

Seating and ordering: 2nd-floor window seats, wedge fries review event, Budweiser draft
I went early in the day, and both the 1st and 2nd floors were relaxed, so I got the window seat with the outdoor-drinking feel I wanted. The 2nd floor is really big, large enough for a company dinner or a group, so feel free to book it if you're looking for a group-friendly place in Hongdae.
I eat Goobne all the time, so I sat down and ordered right away: chicken and wedge fries through the review event, plus the Budweiser draft beer that comes with the set menu.

I've had Budweiser in bottles plenty of times, but draft!!! For someone who only drinks Cass and Terra, that's seriously fancy draft beer. The plus of eating at a Goobne restaurant is that you get fresh beer poured on the spot. And when the weather's this good, you naturally look for an outdoor-style pub. The 2nd floor has floor-to-ceiling windows, wide open, with a breeze drifting in, so isn't this basically an outdoor pub?

How was the Namhae Garlic Basasak combo?
This time I ordered the Namhae Garlic Basasak combo instead of Gochu Basasak (chili-pepper chicken) and dipped it in the marbling sauce. Normally I order nothing but Gochu Basasak at Goobne, but I've been watching my health lately and eating a lot of garlic, so I went with Namhae Garlic. T_T Isn't that basically health food? Haha. And there's nothing fried in it at all, so I dunked it generously in Goobne's marbling sauce and demolished the Namhae Garlic Basasak combo.

It's tasty plain, but dipping it in lots of sauce gives you the full Goobne charm. I also found out Goobne just launched a new item, Seoul Mom Green Onion Oil Tteokbokki Chicken (tteokbokki is spicy rice cakes). I can't handle spice, so I didn't try it, but if you like spicy chicken, go for the new Goobne menu!

I started out politely with a fork, but instinct won in the end, and I put on gloves and tore into it like a tribal chief. Every time I wonder how unfried chicken can be this light and still taste as good as fried. No wonder I keep craving goo-goo-goobne.... haha.

If you want a light start to a holiday in Hongdae
I eat plenty every day anyway, but on holidays, having some meat and a light drink makes me feel like I'm really enjoying my day off, so I wander around Hongdae looking for a pub. On a day like this, no need to go far: come out to Hongdae and spend a cool evening with Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road. Hope you all have a day as crispy as Goobne!
