Eurwang-dong octopus restaurant, 90% octopus set for two: Haesanggung
In short
Haesanggung is a Korean restaurant on Masiran-ro in Eurwang-dong, Yeongjong, Incheon, specialising in octopus stir-fry, seafood kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and whole-octopus pancake. After a Masian mudflat experience, the writer had Haesanggung's ₩57,000 set for two on the patio at a weekend lunch; the stir-fry had far more octopus than vegetables, and the whole-octopus pancake was crispy. Close to the mudflat site, Masian Beach and Eurwangni Beach, Haesanggung is an ideal lunch stop on a Yeongjong day trip.

Why Haesanggung for lunch after the Masian mudflat experience
After the mudflat experience at the Masian mudflat site on Yeongjong, we went for lunch at Haesanggung (해상궁) in Eurwang-ri! It's within 10 minutes of the mudflat site so it felt easy, and we picked it because we could get octopus stir-fry along with seafood kalguksu and a seafood pancake with octopus in it.

Haesanggung opening hours, closing day and parking
Haesanggung is at 411 Masiran-ro (198 Eurwang-dong), Yeongjong-gu, Incheon. It's open daily 10:00–21:00 and closed every Tuesday. There's also its own parking lot.

We went at weekend lunch and the place was so full of customers that it almost felt like there'd be a wait. It seems they won a prize at a food contest for the octopus stir-fry and octopus pancake. Haesanggung entered a tasty, distinctive dish representing Jung-gu at a local specialty food contest. I'd guess the octopus pancake scored the highest.

Haesanggung's patio: are dogs allowed?
Haesanggung has patio seating, so it's a restaurant where you can bring your dog. The weather was nice so we sat outside, and it was even hot, hard to believe it was October.

Haesanggung menu and prices
The basic order at Haesanggung is the Haesanggung set (octopus stir-fry, seafood kalguksu, whole-octopus pancake and Ganghwa rice), starting at ₩57,000 for two. There's also an abalone-octopus set that includes abalone-octopus stir-fry, plus single dishes.

Haesanggung's side dishes
The side dishes at Haesanggung are kimchi, bean sprouts and a salad. The cabbage for the salad was fresh and the dressing was good too.

Whole-octopus pancake, the best dish in the set
The first thing out from the Haesanggung set for two was the whole-octopus pancake~~ The look of one whole octopus on top really catches the eye. They asked us not to lift the octopus off and cut it separately, but to cut it together with the pancake.

It's loaded with shrimp and octopus, and it was fried so nicely and crispy that Haesanggung's whole-octopus pancake was the tastiest thing in the set.

How big is a serving of Haesanggung's seafood kalguksu?
Next, the seafood kalguksu! This is one serving of Haesanggung's seafood kalguksu, and it's quite a lot.

Haesanggung octopus stir-fry: how spicy, and how much octopus?
Last to arrive was the red Haesanggung octopus stir-fry. It's very red, but not that spicy. They told us not to put the bean sprouts into the stir-fry, but to add them separately when mixing with rice. Maybe because they release water~

When you order octopus stir-fry, often there's less than a quarter octopus and the rest is filled with onion, green onion and cabbage, but the octopus stir-fry at Haesanggung in Yeongjong really... felt like over 90% octopus.

With extra somyeon noodles, is the set for two enough?
I couldn't resist adding somyeon (thin wheat noodles)... We shared kalguksu and pancake with our child too, but even so, with the extra noodles the Haesanggung set for two felt like quite a lot of food.

How to enjoy Haesanggung's octopus stir-fry
With Haesanggung's octopus stir-fry, I picked up just the octopus and ate it, then mixed it with rice and bean sprouts in the big bowl that came with it~

As they instructed, we also dipped the octopus pancake in the stir-fry sauce.

The stir-fry, enjoyed a different way with somyeon, goes well with the pancake too, and with kalguksu it's a no-brainer combination. The owner was kind as well, so we left Haesanggung feeling good.
Where is Haesanggung, and what's nearby in Yeongjong?
Haesanggung is about 10 minutes from Inspire Hotel on Yeongjong, and the Masian mudflat site, Masian Beach and Eurwangni Beach are all close. A golden location for a Yeongjong restaurant.
