Gyeongsan sushi lunch set with grilled salmon and eel add-ons: Sonsi

Today I'm bringing you a review of a Yeungnam University-area restaurant I visited for lunch, Sonsi Sushi Yeungnam University Main Branch. I heard it was a sushi spot you can walk to from Exit 5 of Yeungnam University Station, so I got curious and went — and no exaggeration, it was the best sushi I've ever had! Where Sonsi Sushi is in Gyeongsan and when it opens

• Hours: Daily 11:30–21:00 (weekday break time 15:30–16:30, last order 15:00 and 20:30, no break time on holidays/weekends)
• Free parking available at the nearby Joyeong-dong public parking lot

What Sonsi Sushi feels like at lunchtime

Even though I visited at lunchtime, the restaurant was really packed with people.

You could really feel that this was a popular spot, true to its reputation as a Yeungnam University favorite. 🤩🤩 Looking at the menu, the lineup was really diverse — sushi sets, aged sushi sets, maki, noodles, tempura, and individual sushi pieces — and especially since they run a lunch-only value set and a budget set, visiting at lunchtime lets you enjoy things much more fully. 🩷

What comes in the value set, plus the five à la carte add-ons

This time we ordered the value set at Sonsi Sushi Yeungnam University Main Branch. !! The value set came with 12 pieces of premium aged nigiri, an aged sashimi rice bowl, aged soy sauce shrimp tempura, and a large katsuo udon, so it was really substantial..!!!! haha

It was so delicious that we kept ordering extra à la carte pieces, adding thick grilled salmon and Japanese eel to enjoy even more fully.

How did the aged fish and the shrimp tempura taste?

From the moment the value set at Sonsi Sushi Yeungnam University Main Branch arrived, I was surprised by how generous the portions were.

The sashimi rice bowl was piled generously with raw fish, and the aged sashimi was so fresh and soft it practically melted in my mouth. The fish was really fresh, with absolutely no fishy smell — totally clean.

The shrimp tempura was also crispy outside and moist inside, and that crunchy texture came alive with every bite. I was satisfied enough to think this level of sushi quality is hard to find even among Yeungnam University restaurants.

The extra thick grilled salmon and Japanese eel we ordered also had a subtle smoky flavor that kept me reaching for more. This was truly the best sushi I've ever had.

Is a lunch set at Sonsi Sushi in Gyeongsan worth it?

• Substantial lunch-only value sets and budget sets
• Both the sashimi rice bowl and aged sashimi are fresh with generous portions
