A weekend-drive dessert stop in Gurae-dong: Jinsim Castella Gimpo Gurae Main Branch
Jinsim Castella Gimpo Gurae Main Branch (진심카스테라 김포구래본점) is a dessert shop in Gurae-dong, Gimpo, where you can take away castella and fruit sando. My wife and I were out for a weekend drive near Gurae-dong, and I wanted a sweet, soft treat to lift the mood, so we stopped by this place everyone has been talking about lately.
I love fluffy, moist castella and sandwiches stuffed with colorful fruit, so when I heard a dessert shop with standout quality had just opened, I drove over without hesitation.

Where to park at Jinsim Castella Gimpo Gurae Main Branch
The shop has parking in the building's basement, so it is easy to visit by car. Parking is always my biggest worry when driving, but the basement space here was wide and convenient, so I could go pick up takeout with zero parking stress.
After parking in the basement and coming up to the first floor, the clean, stylish exterior caught my eye from far away.

In front of the shop, the sentimental Jinsim Castella sign with its red accent greeted us.

The sign is big and bright, so we found it easily without wandering around. Even before going in, the smell of fresh-baked bread gave off real dessert-shop vibes.

Inside Jinsim Castella Gimpo Gurae: the shop and its display case
The inside was cozy and pleasant, and since the shop is mostly takeout, the display case and shelves were kept neat. Stepping in, the space felt genuinely cozy and comfortable.

Maybe because it is a takeout specialist, the display case and shelves were spotless and sparkling, and the owner greeted us with a bright smile and a friendly manner, so my mood was great from the first impression.

What's on the menu at Jinsim Castella Gimpo Gurae Main Branch?
The display case had the signature original castella, Gimpo sando, fruit sando and strawberry sando lined up by type. It was packed with desserts so appetizing I couldn't take my eyes off them.
It starts with the signature fluffy original castella, then goes on to the Gimpo sando that is hugely popular with dessert fans these days, the Gimpo fruit sando and the Gimpo strawberry sando, all in a nice variety. Through the clear case, the fresh colors of the fruit and the generous milk cream made my mouth water just looking.

We ordered a hearty takeout combo: one box of original Jinsim castella to enjoy its rich flavor, and a fruit sando for the freshness of various fruits.

How does the original Jinsim castella taste?
The original Jinsim castella had no dryness at all; it melted softly in the mouth with a subtle, nutty egg flavor. Excited, I carried the bag home, spread everything out on the table right away, and dug in with my wife.
The castella was the first thing we tried, and from the moment we opened the box, a rich, sweet smell swept past my nose.

I carefully cut it with a knife and took a bite, and there wasn't a trace of dryness. It was like chewing a cloud, melting away in my mouth with supreme softness.

It wasn't an artificial, overpowering sweetness; the natural nuttiness and rich flavor of the egg spread gently, so I thought it would suit adult tastes and also work as a kids' snack. With milk or coffee, you could keep eating it endlessly. It had a bewitching charm and was a perfect castella.

How do the fruit sando and strawberry sando taste?
The fruit sando at Jinsim Castella is made with thick castella bread, generously filled with seasonal fruit such as strawberry, kiwi and mandarin, plus fresh dairy whipped cream. Next it was time for the Gimpo fruit sando and Gimpo strawberry sando we'd been looking forward to.
Between thick slices of castella bread, fresh, sweet seasonal fruit and light, not-greasy dairy whipped cream were sandwiched without holding back. Taking a big bite, the bursting, tangy fruit juice, the rich cream wrapping softly around my mouth, and the moist bread made a fantastic harmony in three parts.
The Gimpo sando in particular, with strawberry, kiwi, mandarin and other fruit blending harmoniously, was a joy to look at and great in taste too, and my wife and I kept marveling the whole time we ate.

Is Jinsim Castella Gimpo Gurae Main Branch worth a visit?
It was a Gurae-dong takeout dessert shop that beat expectations in everything: a tidy shop, basement parking, friendly service and flavor. The clean, hygienic atmosphere, the convenient basement parking, the kind service and above all an overwhelming taste and quality that any famous dessert café would envy: everything was better than expected.

On the weekend, my wife and I filled our day with small happiness from sweet desserts and finished a lovely takeout date. If you're near Gurae-dong and want a no-fail dessert, a castella to give as a gift, or a pretty fruit sando to brighten a special day, I strongly recommend Jinsim Castella Gimpo Gurae Main Branch.
