Sinjungdong Station Korean BBQ for two, 1,050g set finished: Bangatgan

I was wondering where to eat dinner after shopping at Lotte Department Store in Bucheon, and that's how I found this Korean BBQ place near Sinjungdong Station: Gogi Gubneun Bangatgan Sinjung-dong Station Branch (고기굽는방앗간 신중동역점). The prices were so low that I didn't expect much at first, but the meat quality surprised me once, and the drink prices surprised me twice. If you're looking for a great-value BBQ place, I really want to recommend this one, so here's the full rundown.

Where is Gogi Gubneun Bangatgan near Sinjungdong Station?

It's a few minutes' walk from Sinjungdong Station, and Lotte Department Store Bucheon is right next door. The access is great, so it's perfect after shopping, and it's also a popular spot for company dinners and get-togethers.

What are the dining room and group seating like?

The restaurant is much bigger than I expected. The tables are nicely spaced and it's clean, so it doesn't feel cramped at all.

There's plenty of group seating too, so it's great for family meals as well as company dinners. When I visited, there were lots of company-dinner tables and families. If you're looking for a group dinner spot near Sinjungdong Station, the atmosphere will more than satisfy.

The most popular item is, of course, the Bangatgan set. 1,050g for ₩57,000. Considering what a serving of pork belly costs these days, it's hard to believe.

You can order à la carte too, of course. In today's bleak world where one serving has somehow shrunk to 150g, one serving here is 300g.

How much are soju and beer?

Drinks and beverages are self-serve here. Domestic soju and beer are ₩1,500 and imported beer is ₩2,500. And there's a huge variety.

How does the self-serve side bar work?

The self-bar is kept really clean too. If you run out of side dishes, just refill them there. Such a great system.

Can two people finish the 1,050g Bangatgan A Set?

And here comes the star of the day. We ordered the Bangatgan A Set for ₩57,000: pork belly (400g) + pork neck (400g) + pork jowl (200g) + smoked makchang (pork large intestine, 50g). It looks like a lot for two people, but it was so tasty that the two of us finished it all...

At this price, you can't not have a beer. Even a bottle of Cass is ₩1,500, so I ordered without a second thought.

Pork belly goes on first. The fire on the grill is strong, so it cooks quickly.

First bite with scallion salad. The ratio of fat to lean is good, so it's rich and nutty yet still chewy. It's not just a good value; the quality of the meat itself satisfied me.

Dipped in the special sauce, it's a whole different charm. Not greasy, and you keep going back for more.

While eating the pork belly, I put the pork neck on right away. Ready to keep eating without a break.

After the beer comes the soju. Of course this is ₩1,500 too. At this price, you can enjoy drinking without worrying about the bill.

Smoked makchang: a small taste with a big presence

The smoked makchang is only a tasting-size portion, but its presence was definite. No gamey smell and nicely chewy, so it goes really well as a drinking snack.

At times like this you've got to eat your veggies too. Being able to take as much as you like from the self-bar is a plus.

The Bangatgan pork neck that won over a pork-neck lover

For the record, I'm a pork neck lover. It's my favorite cut, and the pork neck at Gogi Gubneun Bangatgan is the best, just the best. Not dry at all, and delicious.

The makchang is good dipped in the sauce it comes with. Chewy and delicious. If I hadn't been so full, I would have ordered more.

Last on the grill: pork jowl

Last is the pork jowl. You can sense the richness from the look of it.

The pork jowl is thin so it cooks fast, and the nutty flavor gets better the more you chew. Having tried all three cuts, each has its own charm, so I never got tired of it until the end.
