Japanese restaurant in Hanam Misa for Menji Week yakitori don: Menji
In short
Menji Hanam Misa Branch is a Japanese ramen and tonkatsu restaurant on Misagangbyeonbuk-ro 30beon-angil in Hanam, Gyeonggi, sharing its entrance with a bakery café as a shop-in-shop. On a walk by the lake park with her husband, the writer ordered the yakitori don and the ramen tonkatsu set, and the soft-boiled egg came whole rather than halved. During Menji Week, around the midsummer boknal days, the flame-grilled whole chicken leg yakitori is 2,000 won off, making Menji Hanam Misa Branch a generous, smoky-flavored stop after a lakeside stroll.

I was looking for a good ramen place in Misa these days and ended up at Menji Hanam Misa Branch, a Japanese food specialist. I usually love Japanese food so I went in with high expectations, and it exceeded them — a Hanam Misa spot I left really satisfied with!

Parking and the shop-in-shop layout
Menji Hanam Misa Branch is attached to a bakery café, so think of it as a shop-in-shop setup. There's parking for 4-5 cars right in front.
During peak hours seats fill up fast, so I'd recommend walking or taking public transit. I happened to be near Hanam Misa Lake Park, so I dropped by while out on a stroll!

Since Menji is a Japanese food specialist, if you're into Studio Ghibli vibes, it's fun to check out the cute figures on display too!
Menu and the Menji Week discount

Right now it's Menji Week Days for jungbok and malbok (the summer's dog days), running from the last week of July through mid-August, and there's an event where the grilled chicken leg yakitori gets a ₩2,000 discount. Next time I want to try the grilled chicken leg too~

Yakitori don, a rice bowl with surprisingly generous toppings
I ordered the yakitori don, and I was surprised by how much topping was piled on. No wonder this place is a Hanam Misa hotspot~
It's topped with grilled chicken and pork shoulder cooked over an open flame, and that smoky char flavor is really appealing. A Japanese rice bowl with a subtle charcoal-grilled aroma running through it!
It seems like a good fit for solo dining, dates, or a family meal out — I went with my husband, but I could easily see coming alone and having a bowl when I'm hungry!
First, the chicken on top! It wasn't tough at all — moist and well-seasoned with a nice saltiness, and the sweet teriyaki-style sauce paired really well with the rice~!

The sauce had soaked evenly into the rice too, boosting the umami — and the key touch here is the scallions! Eating the meat together with scallions makes for a cleaner finish to the yakitori don!
There was a soft-boiled egg on top too, plus a generous amount of pork shoulder and chicken — it made me wonder, is it really okay to pile on this many toppings? Such a generously stocked Japanese rice bowl!
Ramen tonkatsu set: tori paitan broth and house-made tonkatsu
Next up is the ramen tonkatsu set my husband ordered — the moment it arrived, I really loved the composition of the set!
Apparently Menji's signature dish is tori paitan ramen made with a chicken broth base, and lately they've been pairing it with a house-made tonkatsu as a set, making it even more popular.

Being able to alternate between ramen and tonkatsu made each dish bring out the other's charm more, and I really felt like ordering the set menu was the right call!
I tried the ramen first, and the broth was remarkably rich yet clean. Maybe because the chicken broth is simmered a long time, it wasn't heavy like tonkotsu — the savory umami really came through~

There's also a mini bowl of rice served alongside, so you can dip it into the broth partway through — the broth was so deeply extracted that even though it's ramen, it felt like a fully thoughtful Japanese-style bowl~
Since the noodles are house-made, they had a nice springiness that matched the broth well, and they held their texture without going soft to the end!
The thinly sliced meat topping on top made it even better when eaten together~! Plus, here they give you the soft-boiled egg whole. Compared to most ramen places that only give you half, the topping portions here are really generous~
I also tried the tonkatsu that came with the set. The moment I took a bite, I could hear the crunch of the crispy batter first.
The meat inside was moist and tender, with no dryness at all — true to a house-made tonkatsu using fresh loin, the juices were still alive, and dipping it in the special sauce added a sweet, savory umami that kept me reaching for more~

The sauce is great, but for another kind of appeal, pairing it with wasabi lets you enjoy it more cleanly without any greasiness — personally, I'd recommend that combo~

Overall verdict on Menji Hanam Misa Branch
- A place with an appealing rich chicken broth ramen (set menu recommended)
- Tonkatsu is crispy and the meat stays moist — satisfying!
- The yakitori don's smoky char flavor makes it a rice-devourer
- Good for solo dining, dates, and family meals alike

If you're near Mangwol-dong or Misa Lake Park in Hanam looking for a good Japanese ramen or tonkatsu spot, this is a great-value choice! Next time, I definitely want to try the signature tori paitan ramen too~
