Hapjeong handmade burger lunch, two sets compared: New York Apartment

I finally went to New York Apartment (뉴욕아파트먼트), a handmade burger place in Hapjeong I'd had my eye on for lunch for ages. It's a Blue Ribbon pick, so I'd been curious for a while, and after eating there I get why it's so popular! You get proper, hearty American-style burgers, so if you're hunting for a good lunch in Hapjeong, give it a try.

Where is New York Apartment in Hapjeong, and is there parking?

New York Apartment is in Delight Square 2, a 5-minute walk from Exit 8 of Hapjeong Station on Line 2. It's open daily 11:10–23:00, and it's listed as offering parking, group seating, delivery and Seoul Pay.

If you use the building's own parking lot, parking is free once you register. Be careful, though: if you park at Delight Square Building 1, parking isn't covered.

What's the atmosphere like at New York Apartment?

At the entrance, a long row of Blue Ribbon stickers, ten years in a row since 2017, was lined up. A Red Ribbon was displayed right next to it too, so the place already gave off serious good-restaurant vibes before I even stepped in!!

Walk a little way along the big windows and you reach the entrance. The interior feels stylish and hip, like a little burger joint in America.

Cute figurines are displayed here and there, and the walls, lighting and table layout all carry that American feel, so it's a decent spot for photos too.

It works with a friend, and eating alone feels no-pressure too. I could see why New York Apartment is such a popular lunch spot in Hapjeong.

How to order and what's on the menu at New York Apartment

You order on the tablet at each table, which is convenient.

Being famous for handmade burgers, it has a wide menu: all kinds of burgers, plus pasta, steak and BBQ.

I ordered two things that day.

• New York Double Cheese set (onion rings + Coke)

After ordering, the staff brought forks, wet wipes and water, and the water had lemon in it, so it was refreshing. A staff member told us up front that drinks can be refilled. They were friendly, so even first-timers can feel at ease.

The Cheeseholic Burger at New York Apartment is, as the name says, a huge yes if you love cheese! In a word: a cheese-bomb handmade burger!!

Cheese is packed generously between thick meat patties, and the way it flows down like a waterfall looked so tempting!!

Between the two thick meat patties are several kinds of cheese, still thick and gooey in texture, and the moment I took a bite, a rich flavor filled my mouth.

It looked like it would be heavy and greasy, but surprisingly the nuttiness of the cheese and the meaty flavor of the patty blended well, so I ate it without feeling weighed down. The patty is thick and juicy, and the more I chewed, the deeper the meat flavor got.

The combination of rich cheese and a juicy patty is so good that I immediately understood why it's New York Apartment's signature menu item. You really feel that hefty handmade-burger texture too.

The honey fries on the side come with a sweet honey seasoning, and eaten with the burger, that sweet-and-salty combo was great.

New York Double Cheese set: a classic New York burger loaded with vegetables

The New York Double Cheese Burger at New York Apartment is, as the name suggests, what you could call a classic New York hamburger.

Two thick beef patties are layered with fresh vegetables like tomato, onion and romaine, and it all comes together so you can enjoy it without feeling weighed down.

With every bite you can taste the true flavor of the juicy patty, which really showed me the charm of a handmade burger.

I think people who usually like a fresh taste will be very happy with this one!

Cheeseholic vs New York Double Cheese burger: what's the difference?

If the Cheeseholic Burger was rich and heavy, the New York Double Cheese Burger gave a fresh feel.

The onion rings came out crispy with a nice texture, and the sweetness of the onion really came through, so they went well with the burger.
