A packed kimchi stew restaurant in Bansong-dong, Dongtan, on a public holiday
I had to stop by near Banson-dong in Dongtan on a public holiday a little while ago, and I was craving a Korean stew, so I searched for good places nearby. Then I saw Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal absolutely packed with people,, It must be a good one, I thought, and went straight in haha. The smell of kimchi stew was drifting out onto the street, so there was no way I could resist the temptation ㅠㅠ
Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal menu and prices
The main dishes at Yangpuni are kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), duruchigi (spicy stir-fried pork) and samgyeop kimchi jjim (braised pork belly and kimchi), and they sell pork belly too. Pork belly is ₩15,000 for a 200g serving! Best value ever, right? haha
I liked that it's a stew place where you can order a single serving, so eating alone is fine. There's also a set menu that comes with egg roll and rice, plus plenty of sides like cold noodles and bulgogi. You can have pork belly with drinks too, so you can drink comfortably and happily until midnight haha

Hoho,, I thought I'd read that wrong,, They even had a huge soju discount going: Chamisul and Jinro for ₩1,900 hahaha. Stew, pork belly and soju together, ahh.. there's no resisting that ㅠㅠ

Ordering the kimchi stew set, plus pork belly kimchi jjim on a return visit
What we ordered at Yangpuni was the kimchi stew set! If you tap the menu, you can change it to 2, 3 or 4 servings, and you can swap the sides too for an extra charge.
It was so good that I went back one more time, and on my second visit I had the samgyeop kimchi jjim. It's really, really good,, The portion is generous and you can polish off a bowl of rice in no time,,

Kimchi stew with extra meat and a plate-length rolled omelet
Ahh, this is the pure yangpuni kimchi stew feeling~ We added extra meat to the kimchi stew to make it even more generous, and the egg roll came out as a big, full-length one too. If you're coming for drinks, pork belly with an egg roll would be great too.
Korean-grown ingredients and the move to a bigger location
Yangpuni in Dongtan is run by an owner who has been selling kimchi stew since 2017. They say every dish uses only fresh domestic meat, domestic kimchi and fresh vegetables, served on a same-day delivery, same-day sellout basis. With this expansion and move, they switched all ingredients to domestic ones, changed the kimchi duruchigi to Gyeongsang-style duruchigi, and added pork belly to the menu.
There are lots of regulars who keep coming, enough that it's still busy, and I think I'll be reminded of it every time I'm nearby. I enjoyed it so much that I want to stop by and eat again,,!

Ahh,, look at how thick and bouncy that egg roll is, and the thick, delicious-looking meat in the kimchi stew ㅠㅠ Simmered until it's bubbling away, it's a work of art,, The weather has been cold lately and I'd been craving kimchi stew anyway, so I'm extra happy I found a great kimchi stew place in Dongtan and ate properly haha

How was the kimchi stew finished with ramen noodles?
The kimchi stew at Yangpuni has a refreshing broth, so it's great mixed with rice too, and partway through I added ramen noodles (ramyeon sari) to finish properly haha. I ate it all up neatly with the side dishes and seaweed, ladling out plenty of stew, and my stomach felt completely soothed hehe
If you're looking for a good place near Gaenari Park in Banson-dong, Dongtan, I recommend Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal! Single servings are available, so I think it'd be fine to order delivery too.
